New York State Bridge Authority

The New York State Bridge Authority (or NYSBA) is a public benefit corporation in New York State, United States. It was created on March 31, 1932 to finance the construction of the Rip Van Winkle Bridge, which crosses the Hudson River, connecting the City of Hudson and the Village of Catskill. It has some reporting responsibility or accountability to the New York State Department of Transportation.
The Bridge Authority took over the state-owned Mid-Hudson Bridge and the privately owned Bear Mountain Bridge in 1933 and 1940, respectively. It then constructed the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge, completed in 1957, and the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge completed in 1963, for a total of five toll bridges across the Hudson. A twinned second span of the Newburgh-Beacon was completed in 1980.
The Bridge Authority charges an auto toll of $1.00 for eastbound traffic, as of February 5, 2000, on all five bridges, and is a member of the E-ZPass electronic toll collection system.
The Bridge Authority operates all 5 of the road bridges on the Hudson between the New York State Thruway Authority's two bridges, Tappan Zee Bridge to the south and Berkshire Extension bridge to the north.
