[edit] Route description
Route 53 begins at US 202 in Morris Plains. It proceeds north as Tabor Road, before intersecting Route 10. It begins to turn northwest before passing by the Mt. Tabor Country Club. It runs parallel to Interstate 80 while passing to the east of several small lakes. It heads north, soon intersecting Interstate 80, and then ends after intersecting Route 46.[2]
[edit] History
Before the 1953 renumbering, Route 53 was Route 5N. It originally ended at U.S. 46, but when that route was put onto a bypass of Denville, Route 5N continued to end at the old Route 5N, original Route 12.[3]
