This is a story about a criminal, who wants to win everything he does, but when he wins everything, he also lost the most important thing in his life: his soul.... This is the story about self-discovery and how a criminal searching his soul back with the help of his love ones and a police....
Unlike TVB's usual police drama, this story makes up for its lack of action with tension and wits. The central criminal in this story is Yin SingTin, a selfish, supposedly cruel hacker who committed many crimes in terms of hacking. He is vigorously hunted by Zhong JinPang, the head of an Anti-Commercial and Corporate crime force meant to catch hackers and other computer criminals. In terms of brains though, SingTin is superior, and Zhong Sir has never succeeded in collecting evidence against him.
However, Zhong sir is famous and well known to the public, thus many new recruits idolize him. One of them is Tong KaMing, a young man eager to join the police force. When his best friend admits to him that is failing the police academy, KaMing hacks into the system to change the scores. Zhong sir catches him, and the police academy throws the recruit out. However, Zhong sir makes him an offer - to work as an undercover and build a case against SingTin. The ambitious KaMing quickly agrees.
KaMing applies to work in SingTin's internet cafe, where he meets a playful girl named Kong KinYee. Initially because the two competed for the same job, they disliked each other. However, the two were not malicious people, and soon became friends. It didn't take long for KaMing to learn that KinYee was actually the half-sister of SingTin, and as soon as he passed the information to Zhong Sir, the man used KaMing to deliver a disk containing that information to their target.
SingTin, as it turns out, did have a soft side who cared deeply for family relations. He cares for his grandparents a lot, and would like to see his sister, but he was also angry because she was seen as the illegitimate child, the result of his father cheating on his mother. So he acted ruthless to KinYee, but promoted KaMing in his business. KaMing takes the victory reluctantly, as he felt guilty over making KinYee suffer. What he didn't know was that SingTin had figured out his identity, and for now was simply toying with him.
KinYee never complained about her brother's cold treatment, trying time and time again to gain her brother's acknowledgment. As that was happening, Zhong Sir sets KaMing up as a hacker, and 'arrests' him in SingTin's cafe to gain SingTin's interest in him. SingTin decides to play along, asking KaMing about his abilities and then telling the police he won't press charges. Zhong Sir is pleased, thinking they were closer to catching him. What he didn't know was that SingTin revealed to KaMing that he knew the boy was an undercover. He makes the boy another offer - he will allow him to stay by his side, but to actually catch him KaMing would not tell Zhong Sir that his identity had been revealed. Ambitious as always, KaMing agrees.
His first 'test' from SingTin comes during an arts display. SingTin and his 'girlfriend' Erica - a woman who is actually under employ by Triad members - plans to steal something, and as a result SingTin tells KaMing to hack and disable a security system for several minutes. KaMing is told the target is an art piece, and that was what he told Zhong Sir. As a result, the police force was focused on SingTin and the Art gallery, giving Erica the perfect opportunity to sneak into the Jewelry gallery to steal a valuable necklace. Needless to say, Zhong Sir was not pleased, nor was he the only one.
More than one Triad boss was involved in the robbery, and when SingTin tricked Erica into giving a replica of the necklace they had stolen to the Triads, they were furious. As a result, SingTin's family was kidnapped and held hostage. Because KinYee was involved, KaMing ignored orders and dove into the affair, meeting up with another Triad boss to seek his help. Impressed by KaMing's bravery, the man agreed. KinYee and the grandfather survived the ordeal, but without her medicine the grandmother died. To make things worst, the family was told of SingTin's illegal activities, forever ruining their positive impression of SingTin.
Driven by revenge, SingTin dives deeper into the underworld empire, and began dealing in counterfeit money to gain more criminal connections. KaMing, meanwhile, is thrown out of the police force as Zhong Sir learned that his identity has been exposed. No longer undercover, KaMing becomes closer to SingTin, and helps him with his activities. As it turns out though, KinYee learns about KaMing's identity as an undercover, and he tells her he was only using her. The two broke up around the same time SingTin and Erica got together again, and when that happened Erica's younger brother - who also worked with KaMing in Singtin's cafe - turned to the Triads.
KinYee discovers her brother was dabbing in counterfeit money and is quickly upset that her brother was once again into crime. Still raw about her grandmother's death, she tells him she has taken his near-perfect copy away. Erica's brother hears this, and kidnaps her for the triads. KaMing and SingTin tries to rescue her, but the attempt is blotched, with KinYee ending up in a coma after she took a bullet for SingTin, who in turn lost his eyesight.
There is no honour amongst Triads, and after some dissent and further deception, Erica's brother is shot by the Triads. He manages to escape to the blind SingTin's home, and unintentionally helps SingTin recover his eyesight before dying. Erica in turn is alarmed and angry, believing that SingTin killed her brother. KaMing, meanwhile, seeks for police support when he learns that KinYee had sent her brother's copy of the counterfeit money to Zhong sir. Eventually, the man agrees.
The final confrontation soon takes place, and a gunfight ensures between the Triads, police, and those in between - SingTin and KaMing. Eventually the police wins, and the Triads are either killed or arrested. As promised, SingTin turns himself in. KaMing is cleared, but because his file was destroyed after his identity had been exposed, he had to go through the training and recruiting from scratch.
Four years later, KaMing is on par with Zhong Sir, and in a relationship with KinYee. SingTin, despite his prison term, marries Erica. Zhong sir, who has stopped obsessing over catching SingTin, is more relaxed and it is hinted he is ready to move on and start a relationship with a colleague who has a crush on him. The series end on a positive note, as most TVB series do.
