Neal Bishop (born 7 August 1981 in Stockton-on-Tees, England) is an English footballer, currently playing for Barnet.

Bishop began his footballing career with Middlesbrough, in their youth set-up.[citation needed] He then moved to smaller clubs like Billingham Town, Spennymoor United, Gateshead and Whitby.
Bishop first gained notice whilst playing for Whitby Town, and in March 2005 he signed for Scarborough in the Conference National on a deal until the end of the 2004–05 season,[1] following a week's trial.[2] He made 10 appearances and scored one goal during this season,[3] and signed a deal to keep him at Scarborough for the 2005–06 season in May.[2] Here, he made a name for himself and was chosen as captain for the 2005–06 season.[citation needed] His lip was cut in an alleged clash with Denny Ingram in the tunnel following a game against Halifax Town, which Bishop decided not to press charges against.[4]
He was signed by York City for an undisclosed fee on 31 January 2006.[5] He finished the season with 14 appearances and scored one goal for York and signed a new deal with the club in July.[6][7] He scored the winner against Oxford United with a 20-yard volley on the final day of the 2006–07 season, meaning York secured a place in the Conference National play-offs,[8] and was voted as the York City Clubman of the Year for the season the same day,[9] finishing the season with 48 appearances and scored three goals.[10] He was named in the England National Game XI team in May to play in the Four Nations Tournament.[11] Bishop rejected a new deal at York, saying he wanted his salary to fall in line with the club's top earners.[12]
He signed for Barnet in June on a free transfer as he was out of contract with York.[13][14] He said he decided to join Barnet so he could fulfil a life-long ambition of playing in the Football League.[15] He made his debut for Barnet against Morecambe on 11 August 2007 and was sent off for violent conduct in his second game against Norwich City on 14 August 2007,[16][17] which resulted in a three-match ban.[18] He finished the 2007–08 season with 47 appearances for Barnet,[19] and handed in a transfer request after turning down an improved contract with the club.[20] Despite this, the club later exercised their option to extend his contract for another season.[21]
