The National Orthodox School (NOS) was established in 1958 in Amman, Jordan specifically in Shmeisani. The National Orthodox School raised the bar in excellence and academically proficient teachers in Jordan. The School is one of the finest in Amman. It is a tough school and offers a high standard of education.
It started as Kindergarten in a rented building in Jabal Amman in the year 1957. It moved to its present location in Shmeisani in the year 1961. It has a student body of around 1600 of both males and females being the first co-educational school to raise up a patriotic and open-minded generation, a generation that can make logical scientific and pragmatic decisions.

[edit] Stages
The National Orthodox School consists of four stages with a head for each and every department or stage.
Stage One: This includes 18 sections comprising grades one up to three.
Stage Two: This includes 15 sections comprising grades four to six.
Stage Three: This includes 16 sections of classes seven to ten.
Stage Four: This stage includes 19 sections. These include 3 sections of grade 9 IGCSE, 3 sections of 10 IGCSE 6 sections of 11 (2 IGCSE 1 literary, 2 scientific and 1 IT streams). It also includes five sections, of 12 (2 section of 12th IGCSE, four sections of Tawjihi classes. Two literary sections and two scientific sections).
It is worth mentioning that the school is well-equipped with tools, educational media and modern equipment for it has its own resource room. The school hosts two libraries, one for classes 1-6 and another for classes 7-12. It has three labs, which are accredited by British Council for physics and chemistry, A-level practical exams, a workshop for male students, home economics for girls, counseling rooms, sport fields and multi-purpose hall, spacious fields and play grounds. The school is also planning to build a gym building, that includes a swimming pool.

Mr Azmi Shaheen is the current principal of the school. It is widely believed among students, parents and even staff that the school's level was slightly decreased after the administration of Mr Shaheen. Lack of leadership and knowledge on how to run a school properly caused the school to suffer from Mr. Shaheen's Administration. However, the school is still one of the top in Jordan Despite such poor administration.
On the other hand, many former students approve Mr Shaheen as a professional principal with positive influence on his students; Giving support to help them achieve respectful positions in life.
[edit] Registrations and acceptance
Registration for new students starts on the first day of February of each year. Application forms can be obtained from the school's registration office.
Documents needed for registration:
- A certified birth certificate,
- Two photographs.
- A certificate of good conduct.
- A photocopy of the last three classes of the last school attended.
- Vaccination certificate for grades one to nine.
- Medical certificate / disease clear.
- Photocopy of the family book: father's pages, mother's page, children's.
- An interview for the applicant will be conducted by the head of the stage he/she is applying for.
- Deposit fees and registration should be paid within a week of acceptance, or else the applicant will lose his seat.
After signing documents for paying the tuition fees, the application form together with other documents should be submitted to the registration office office in the school. Afterwards, a date for the entrance exam will be set. When the result of this exam is out, it is sent together with the application form to the school committee at the Orthodox Educational Society to endorse or turn down the application.

The school pays special attention to the Arabic language which is the mother language, in addition to teaching English and French. English is taught from grade one up till 12. Modern and up-to-date books from recognized publishers are used. These books are regularly and continuously evaluated. Mathematics and science are taught from grade one to ten, in addition to the IGCSE syllabus O and A levels. Moreover, French is taught from grade one to nine. The school and in co-operation with the French Center, conducts the DELF 1-2 exams as well.

Computer Department: The school has five computer labs with internet access, and a sufficient number of computers. Computer is taught beginning first grade up to Tawjihi.
Medical service: The school hosts a modern and well-equipped clinic. A full-time doctor, who conducts a full medical check-up for students and vaccines, is always ready to give a helping hand. It is worth mentioning that all students enjoy accident insurance, during school hours, while being transported by school buses and while taking part in school activities outside school hours.
Counseling department: This department helps the students with their academic as well as emotional problems. It extends a solid bridge with parents. The department consists of highly-qualified teachers to help students with their special needs as well.
Activity department: This is responsible for all school activities (Scientific, literary, sports, arts, trips, chess, computer and scientific club. The scientific club comprises photography, astronomy, agriculture, weather forecasting, saving the environment and first aid. This club was founded in 1994 to develop talents and satisfy students' needs. The activity department records down teachers' activities, for the incentive plan purposes. At the end of the school year, certificates, trophies and prizes are given to students. This department also supervises the Boys' Scout and Girls' Guide movements.
Sports: The school encourages all students to take part in many sport activities by providing instructors and trainers. The school is planning to build a gym building, that includes a swimming pool.
School parents association: The school strongly believes that co-operation between the school and the parents is an essential ingredient for the success of the upbringing of students. The school administration is ready and upon a previous appointment to meet with parents. The heads of all departments are more than ready to meet with parents between 8:30 AM, or 9:00 AM on daily basis. Moreover, parents teachers' meetings are scheduled twice a year. Parents are informed of these meetings by the newsletter distributed on a weekly basis.
