National Bakery School

The National Bakery School at London South Bank University was founded in 1894 and it is now the world's oldest bakery school.
The Bakery School is often invited to make cakes for major centenaries or other such events of national importance. These have ranged from the wedding of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip to, more recently, the Millennium celebrations. During World War I and II, the School devised recipes to help with the use of food during wartime rationing.
Within London, the School has associations with the Worshipful Company of Bakers. The Head of the School and the Dean of the Faculty are both Liverymen of the Company. More generally, the School has an international reputation and many of its alumni have become heads of bakeries around the world.
The Bakery School is based in the Tower Block on Borough Road, London SE1, and runs the Tower Restaurant there, open during term time for staff.
