Nakauonuma District, Niigata

Nakauonuma (中魚沼郡; -gun) is a district located in Niigata, Japan.
In 1954, the town of Tokamachi gained status after merging with three villages and later gained more land by merging surrounding villages. There were some villages from the northside of the district merged into the city of Ojiya. After the municipalities of Kawanishi and Nakasato merged with the city of Tokamachi on April 1, 2005, the district now only has the village of Tsunan left.
As of April 1, 2005, the district has a population of 11,754. The area is now 372.80 km².
