Mucca Pazza is a 30 piece self-described "circus punk marching band" based out of Chicago. Conceived by composer Mark Messing, the band, whose name comes from the Italian for "crazy cow," has been performing in and around the Chicago area, in bars, parks, parades and theaters for over three years. Well known throughout the freakier side of the Chicago music, art and theater scenes, most Chicago artists have less than 6 degrees of separation from this 30 piece group. Some fans refer to them as "nerdcore". The tunes range from Balkan-brass romps, booty shakers, noisy punk, to covers of 60s television show themes. They have performed at many well known venues including Manhattan's Highline Ballroom, Brooklyn's McCarren Park Pool, Chicago's Empty Bottle, True/False Film Festival, Looptopia, Boston's TTs The Bear's, Lollapalooza and were featured on the Conan O'Brien show in 2006. Their debut album titled A Little Marching Band was released in 2006 and is distributed by Southern Records. A second album is currently in production.
