[edit] Please Help

I was reading the page Agnosticism for help with an assignment and when I returned to it, I notice it has been vandalised. I wanted to revert the page to the previous edit, but I can't find instructions on how to do this. Is anyone able to help me? Or alternatively, to fix the page? MrsPlum 21:59, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Mrs Plum welcomes your feedback and advice

Any feedback or advice that would help to improve the quality of my edits or article contributions is welcome here. I'm fairly thick skinned and can accept criticism without flailing my arms about and falling to the floor in sobs. Of course, constructive criticism is always the most helpful kind.

  • Thanks Akamad. That was quick. I really appreciate it. MrsPlum 01:54, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] In the study, with a candlestick?

You prodded Barossa Shiraz. I disagree with the prod. Your first reason, that it is not in wide use, would appear to be contradicted by this book and other works. Your other reason, that it would require a lot of work to create a proper article, is not a reason to delete. Many such articles exist on Wikipedia. They are called stubs. If you disagree, feel free to take this to AfD. Cheers, JChap2007 04:42, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

Welcome!

Hello, MrsPlum, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome!  JChap2007 04:42, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

  • Hi JChap. Thanks for the message - that's fine with me. I don't disagree and it is nice to get some feedback so I can make sure I am doing the right thing. In this case, I used to live in the region and have never heard the term really used. Having said that, if the term is being used, then I agree it needs a page. If I have time, I might even be able to help expland the page myself. Thanks for letting me know. I hope I havent' caused any problem. All this thinking about Barrosa Shiraz is making me thirsty. I think I'll have to open a bottle and get cracking on my reserach for the page. MrsPlum 00:33, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Stubs Help

I would really appreciate any help or advice about stubs versus short articles.

I have been expanding and in some cases expanding actor's pages, and I would like some advice on when these pages are stubs or short articles. I generally do a google search and include all the available details I can confidently source online for the actor. However, this still only provides for a short article in some cases.

The actor stubs page suggests: "The perfect article about an actor gives both a (possibly short) biography and a list of performances. Also, appropriate categories should be added, especially those listed in Category:Actors by medium and Category:Actors by nationality." Going by this, I think many of the pages I have created are short articles rather than stubs, but I am unsure about removing or creating stub status. I always try to make a page as complete as possible when I create it from a red link.

As an example of what I mean, some of the pages I've created or updated include Catherine Rabett, Donald Sumpter, Joanna McCallum. Some longer pages where I could get more details from google include Maggie Steed and Gillian Barge. MrsPlum 01:28, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

I hope this isn't a silly question. Any feedback or advice would be great.

I would look at WP:STUB. This is the guidelines for stubs, and when an article is not a stub. Diez2 01:42, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] link to British

Hello, when you want to link to the article about something British, please do not link to British, as that is a disambiguation page (which nothing should be linked to). Instead link to the one of the options found on that page such as United Kingdom, Great Britain or British English by writing out [[United Kingdom|British]] or [[Great Britain|British]]. Regards, Jeff3000 01:36, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

- Woops - cheers for the tip. MrsPlum 01:38, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Lake Pedder

Hey thanks for that - I kept feeling I have been talking to myself for a year over that article - problem is I have edited a large number of Tasmanian articles - and I hoped I might have found an australian in their 60's who was involved with the issues at first hand - so far no find... thanks anyway SatuSuro 03:27, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

  • No problem. Sorry I can't help with that. It's an interesting subject and I think the article reads well. I would love to live in Tasmania one day. MrsPlum 03:34, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
Hey - its well worth visiting - and I almost shifted there last year but my teenagers wanted to stay here in Perth, WA - as for the article it needs a lot of work SatuSuro 03:37, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
  • I will try to help with the article if I have time. I have a new baby at home so I don't get much of a chance at the moment. See you in Tassie one day perhaps? MrsPlum 03:40, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
Its a small place - you never know... Considering their stages -I get nostalgic for new baby stage - our teenagers are questioning everything at the moment and its tiring... SatuSuro 03:43, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] AfD nomination of Albuera Street Primary School

An editor has nominated Albuera Street Primary School, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Albuera Street Primary School and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. [edit] Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Albuera Street Primary School

Hi there. I just wanted to add to my comment at the AfD discussion, which I intended to be a positive suggestion - to discuss your plan to create a series of school articles at a talk page, either at List of schools in Tasmania or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Tasmania.

This would have a couple of benefits:

  1. It would have identified weather this each school was just a potential article or actually a notable subject with a clear need for an article to be created
  2. You would have gained some advice on the structure of a good stub, and what has to be in an article for it to withstand the AfD process (small stubs can handle AfD)
  3. You would have built a community of contributors who would argue the merits of the school in an AfD.

I notice you don't advertise any WikiProjects on your user page. Have you considered joining WikiProject Australia or WikiProject Tasmania? At WikiProject Tasmania|WP Tas, users such as Chuq, Orderinchaos, Rac fleming and SatuSuro, Wiki ian would be able to provide advice on possible missing Tasmanian articles to work on, and structure / content of those articles.

If you want to work on something such as a school until you have sufficient material for it to survive AfD then you may need to do it in a user sub-page such as User:MrsPlum/Sandbox. This is how I worked on articles for suburbs near where I live such as User:GarrieIrons/Emerton, New South Wales.

If you want any other suggestions drop me a line at my talk page. Garrie 03:01, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

One other thing I thought I should mention. Your user page says you use British English. I hope you have worked out that you should use the regional English appropriate for the article in question - that is for Tasmanian schools you should be using Australian English if there is any difference (I can't think of differences off the top of my head but I am sure there are many).Garrie 03:04, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
(reposted from AfD page)
First off, thanks for being helpful and trying to resolve redlinks. If more people did this, Wikipedia would be a much better place. Second, the proposed deletion is no reflection on your work, its just that it appears the articles don't meet the notability guidelines for schools. Schools need to have some notable feature(s) other than their existence - for example, interesting architecture, a number of famous alumni, or a record of winning nationally significant competitions. Many schools can meet these criteria, but these current articles don't include that kind of info. Have a look at WP:SCHOOLS for an idea of the kind of information that might justify a school article.
P.S. I should have added - WP:SCHOOLS is not official policy, but it is a useful guideline nonetheless. Check out the active links at the top of its page for more current conversations on schools articles. Euryalus 03:18, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Please oh please could we take the tassie schools issue out of user talk pages and to the Tassie project talk page? SatuSuro 03:32, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

My apologies Mrs Plum - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Tasmania is where I meant SatuSuro 13:03, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi MrsPlum, I just wanted to echo Euryalus' comment that the proposed deletion of the school articles is not a reflection on your work! In fact, I think in the long run creating the articles was a good thing, as it has prompted us to make a decision on what to do with them - even though the most likely result is that they get merged into a list or into town/suburb articles, the end result will be an improvement to Wikipedia! -- Chuq (talk) 07:16, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi again, sorry to see that this (the AfD discussion) is your most recent contribution. As everyone is pointing out, these articles being discussed for deletion is in no way disparaging of the work you did in putting the articles together. Hope to see you back around soon, and that real life is the reason you've been away rather than this AfD issue.Garrie 23:35, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Cheers everyone

Thanks for the support. I hope I wasn't 'venting' too badly. I really want to direct my efforts where they are needed – hence the frustration. Of course I can see the reasons for the recommendation and that doesn’t bother me. I haven't joined any official project page as I don't want to over commit myself and let people down. I tend to just work on fixing articles as I come across them. I REALLY appreciate the advice and moral support. I’ve learned something new and I’ll keep contributing as time permits. MrsPlum 07:45, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

Good on you :) Hopefully you won't get to the stage some of us have at times where you're contributing at the expense of other things in life... it can become quite addictive. Look forward to seeing you around! Orderinchaos 10:51, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the note at my talk page to say, all is well. I think even on smaller projects, joining as a participant is more "I'm interested in what's happening" rather than "I will contribute.Garrie 22:14, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
