Mouvement Québec français (MQF) is an umbrella group of organizations in favour of the preservation and defense of the French language in Quebec. It was founded in 1970 as the Front du Québec français by people like reputed economist François-Albert Angers, before the passing of the Official Language Act (Bill 22, in 1974) and the Charter of the French Language (Bill 101, in 1977) language laws. The MQF actually opposed Bill 22, finding that it did not do enough to protect French, as many others did in Quebec at the time. Angers was the President of the MQF from 1972 to 1980.
The group has included such organizations as the Centrale de l’enseignement du Québec (CEQ), the Confédération des syndicats nationaux (CSN), the Fédération des travailleurs du Québec (FTQ), the Mouvement national des Québécoises et des Québécois (MNQ), the Union des artistes (UDA), the Union des producteurs agricoles (UPA), the Alliance de professeurs et professeures de Montréal, the Union des écrivains québécois, the Association québécoise des professeurs de français and the Saint-Jean-Baptiste Society of Montreal, of which François-Albert Angers was once President. Former SSJBM President Guy Bouthillier was also head of the MQF.
