Mount Ibuki (伊吹山 Ibukiyama?) is a 1,377 meters high mountain, on the border of Maibara, Shiga Prefecture, and Ibigawa, Gifu Prefecture, Japan. It is one of the 100 famous mountains in Japan, one of the Kinki 100 mountains, and one of the Shiga 50 mountains. Mount Ibuki is also the highest mountain in Shiga Prefecture.

Mount Ibuki is the highest peak of the Ibuki Mountains, which strethe from the north to the south as the border of Shiga Prefecture and Gifu Prefecture. Locating at the south end of the mountains, and having the Suzuka Mountains not so from the mountain, to the south, a small plain at the foot of this mountain has become one of the most important strategic point of Japanese history and society.

Mount Ibuki is well-known as the mountain where it recorded heaviest snow fall. On February 24, 1924, the depth of the snow on the top of the mountain was recorded 11.82 m (38.8 ft). As snow depth, officially recorded by governmental weather observations, the depth is known as the world record. Mount Ibuki had been also famous for rich kinds of plants and animals, and its beautiful shape from the ancient time. However, today the shape of the mountain was heavily destroyed by the digging of limestone by Sumitomo Osaka Cement. Plants and animals had also damaged or lost by developing of the mountain as a tourist spot located between two metropolitan areas, Osaka and Nagoya.

Mount Ibuki is one of the easiest mountains to reach to the top. Normally, there are three ways to ascend the mountain. The easiest way is to use Ibuki Driveway. It takes everyone to the places just 10 minutes walks to the top. The second way is to climb the mountains using a ski lift to the ‘Sangome’ and walk to the top. It talks about 2 hours. The last way is simply to climb the mountain. Many climbers climb from Ibuki-Tozanguchi Bus Stop, which is 10 minutes from Ohmi Nagaoka Station of Tōkaidō Main Line by bus.
