Motorola ROKR E6 (pronounced "RO-ker") is the third phone in Motorola's ROKR range of multimedia phones. It was released initially in the People's Republic of China on November 14, 2006, and subsequently worldwide on December 4, 2006.
The ROKR E6 is a direct descendent of the E680 and the MING, sharing the same Montavista Linux operating system, Intel XScale PXA270 series processors, and even the RealPlayer media player instead of the iTunes player installed on the first ROKR phone. The E6 also features a built-in FM Radio, (but no radio recording). It also inherited the 2-megapixel camera (no flash) with manual macro-switching and business card recognition from MING, enhanced with QR Code recognition functions. Additionally, the phone features a 3.5mm headphone jack, allowing use of a standard-sized headphone plug.
It comes installed with Picsel Viewer with the ability to read Microsoft Office and PDF file formats.
[edit] Side Notes:
- 1. The QR CODE needs to be downloaded and installed. A java version can be found at many sites. One of them is KAYWA reader.
- 2. It is possible to hack it to be on EDGE and QUAD BAND networks, but this has not been tested.
- 3. There are two versions of the phone, one the original black (Licorice Black), and the other is Jay Chou's special edition orange color version.
- 4. The radio channel frequency can be modified beyond 88mhz to 65mhz or so, and preset amount of channels can also be modified.
- 5. This is an updated version of MING aka MOTOROLA 1200, but the file system is a little bit different so most of the apps that work on the MING work on this E6, but some may not because of the updated file system.
