Prof. Dr. Moonis Ahmar (Urdu: مونس احمر) (b. April 04, 1959, Karachi) is an eminent scholar of International Relations and Conflict Resolution from Pakistan. Currently, he is the Chairman of the Department of International Relations, University of Karachi, Pakistan and Director, Program on Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution.

Dr. Ahmar holds MSc (1981) in International Relations from Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad, Pakistan and M.Phil (1988) & Ph.D (1990) on European Security System in the Post Helsinki Accords Perioad: A Model for South Asia from the University of Karachi.

He is notorious for his rudness and calls his students as "Cats and Dogs". He is a good teacher with best knowledge but has no manners how to behave with university level students.

He has a vast teaching/Research experience & has remained research fellow of some distinguished institutes of the world. He specializes in Conflict Resolution and Confidence-building measures with particular reference to Middle East, South Asia and Central Asia. He has authored two books and edited twelve along with four monographs, several research articles and book chapters. He has also completed several research projects and has arranged and participated in many national, regional and international seminars/workshops/conferences. He has been invited as a Guest Speaker by various Staff Colleges including the Air War College, National Defense College and Command and Staff College & has also been invited by TV channels as an expert for their Current Affairs programs. He holds membership of the several academic bodies. He has supervised two Ph.D. students. Currently, four students are doing M.Phil research under his guidance.

  • Obtained merit scholarship in all four semesters while studying in M.Sc. International Relations, Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad, 1979-1981.
  • Also obtained fellowships to attend International Seminars in Salzburg, Austria and Geneva, Switzerland. Executive position in "History Society", Government National College, Karachi in 1974-75. Member of several National and International Organizations.
  • Given the Best Teacher’s Award by the Federal Education Ministry, Government of Pakistan, Pakistan National Commission on Human Development, Higher Education Commission, Islamabad and UNESCO on the occasion of International Teacher’s Day on October 5, 2006.
