Monster Hunter 2 is a PlayStation 2 game made by Capcom, and the sequel to Monster Hunter and Monster Hunter G.

[edit] Gameplay

According to Gamefaqs, Monster Hunter 2 is a full-blown sequel to the creature hunting game (after the expansion pack, Monster Hunter G). This new title includes a number of new gameplay systems. Monster Hunter 2 focuses more closely on giving players the feeling of living the life of a hunter. Time flows in the game, with appropriate changes to the fields of play and the enemies that populate them. There is a better sense of being part of a town, with improved online and offline play concepts and design. All modes benefit from new weapons, new types of weapons, new fields of play (new maps), and new monsters. When playing online, there is a better sense of community, a better feeling of being in the same world as everyone who's currently logged into the game. There is also cross-connectivity with the PSP version of the game. Players of the first Monster Hunter game also have the ability to import their characters into Monster Hunter 2.[1]Monster Hunter 2 was never released outside of Japan, just like Monster Hunter G.

Monster Hunter Portable 2 is a partial port of Monster Hunter 2 for the PSP. MHP2 adds new features and includes several changes to the original game, such as the removal of some of the time flow elements and the removal of the octopus-like monster Yamatsukami. Monster Hunter Portable 2 was released in the United States as Monster Hunter Freedom 2.

Along with the various species of monster returning from the first Monster Hunter, Monster Hunter 2 contains many new monsters, such as the metallic wind dragon Kushala Daora, the lion-headed dragon Teostra and his female counterpart Lunastra, the primates Congalala and Blangonga, the bull or minotaur-like monster Rajang, and the chameleon-like dragon Chameleos. With new monsters also comes the prospect of new weapons and armor.

Monster Hunter 2 has an improved weapon tree and upgradeable armors. As in all Monster Hunter games, armor pieces can be worn to obtain skills and abilities. A new feature in Monster Hunter 2 is the use of gems. Gems add skill points to complement those added by armor and weapons. Gems are created by combining ore and/or monster parts. Gems can be attached and detached from armor and weapons that have special gem slots.

[edit] New Weapon Types

  • The Longbow, a ranged weapon which is quicker than the Bowgun and requires no ammunition but is generally less powerful. Longbow users are able to apply special coatings to add various status effects to their attacks.
  • The Tachi or Long Sword, a long blade similar to the Great Sword. Compared to the Great Sword, the Long Sword is lighter and faster, but it loses the ability to guard and generally does less damage. When attacking with the Long Sword, players gradually fill a "Spirit Gauge", which enhances attack power and weapon sharpness when filled, along with giving access to a special combination attack.
  • The Hunting Horn, a blunt weapon and musical instrument which is similar to the Hammer. The Hunting Horn may be played during hunts, and doing so provides various beneficial effects for the player and their teammates. It is also possible to attack while playing the horn.
  • The Hammer a weapon that can stun enemies when hit on the head.
  • Dual blades a weapon that has faster combo than other weapons.
  • The great sword the most slowest weapon but the most powerful weapon.
