[edit] Battle of Thermopylae GA sweeps review: On Hold
As part of the WikiProject Good Articles, we're doing sweeps to go over all of the current GAs and see if they still meet the requirements of the GA criteria. I'm specifically going over all of the "Conflicts, battles and military exercises" articles. I have recently reviewed Battle of Thermopylae and have determined that it is in very good shape but need some assistance to remain a GA. I have put the article on hold for seven days until the issues on the talk page of the article are addressed. I wanted to mention it here since you have significantly edited the article in the past (determined by using WikiDashboard), and if interested, could assist in improving the article and help it to remain a GA. It currently has a few problems concerning inline citations and other general fixes. Additionally, I will be leaving messages on other WikiProjects and editors affiliated with the page to increase the number of participants assisting in the workload.
If you have any questions about what I've said here, let me know on my talk page and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. --Nehrams2020 23:50, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Greeks & others
Hi Miskin, Ideally I would like to see more in that article about e.g. medieval Serbian art, art of Kievan Rus, etc.; at present there is little on this subject, but the entries on later Byzantine art are in general woefully underdeveloped and require a lot of work. As to what "post-Byzantine art" means, though, which is the real point of my edit: I have often seen it used to mean any Christian art produced in the Balkans or Anatolia during the Ottoman Empire (not, on the other hand, Christian art produced e.g. in Syria or Egypt, which is why I had earlier described it as "art produced by Balkan or Anatolian Christians" -- to my mind this isn't weasel-wording, just precision). An example would be the essay by Charalambos Bouras, "The Byzantine tradition in the church architecture of the Balkans in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries", in J.J. Yiannias, ed., The Byzantine tradition after the fall of Constantinople (Charlottesville, 1991), 107-49, which is equally concerned with monuments in present-day Greece, Serbia, Bulgaria, etc. The other essays in this volume exhibit the same catholicism. I'm not sure the literal translation of "Rum millet" is relevant, since the definition of "post-Byzantine art" has nothing to do with Ottoman administration. --Javits2000 22:41, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Yiy.gif
Thank you for uploading Image:Yiy.gif. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Jusjih (talk) 03:09, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Byzantine literature
You mentioned in your edits to Byzantine literature that you are using more modern sources than the admittedly Edwardian Catholic Encyclopedia, and specifically, in many places, you cite the Encyclopaedia Britannica. Is this the modern, copyrighted version, and are you using their text? I don't have access to a set right now, but it's important we don't violate any copyrights. Could you be more specific in your citation there? Correct citation style would clear up a lot of confusion. → (AllanBz ✍) 00:21, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Aspis.gif
Thanks for uploading Image:Aspis.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 19:11, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Vote Request
Hi Miskin, I saw your comment in talk saint cyril and wanted to ask if you could vote on the subject of merging the three poor articles into one that can be tidied up, this would also make it easier to contain drive-by edits. Thanks for your reply.

[edit] Decision theory
In your edit to the decision theory entry (quite some time ago), you added that decision theory is a subfield of discrete mathematics. Exactly what do you mean by that?
The most obvious interpretation would be that decision theory only concerns situations where one is to choose between a set of discrete available decision options, but this is not always the case. For instance, the problem of how much money to invest in a particular project is continuous in nature, at least from an optimal solution point of view (disregarding that sub-cent currency precision is not practically feasible).
So, what is inherently discrete about decision theory?
