Born in McKeeport, Pennsylvania in 1979, but grew up mainly in Clairton, Pennsylvania; both cities are located in the Monongahela Valley region outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I also lived in Allentown, Pennsylvania for a stretch of time.

Half of my family is African-American and the other half is Jamaican. I have ancestors who were Native-American (Cherokee specifically) and Indian ( Bengali specifically).

Several years ago I converted to Reform Judaism. I am currently in the process of converting to Orthodox Judaism.

I think that college is overrated, so I won't even discuss where I went to school. I currently live in North Miami Beach, Florida and work in the title insurance industry as a bookkeeper.

[edit] Technological Interests

Although I do not work in a technical field; I am very interested in technical subjects and have been for years. I current computer uses an AMD processor and runs SUSE Linux 8.2. However, I look forward to the day when I can go ahead and buy a Mac Mini. I have tinkered with programming, but I am not passionate about it. I enjoy Web programming and scripting much more. Vi scripting, PHP, Javascript (some Java as well), HTML/CSS, and playing around with the BASH shell are common diversions. I also love spreadsheets and relational database systems. I think Microsoft's Access and Excel are the only programs they produce that I can take seriously.

I also have a fleeting interest with mobile technology (although I personally do not believe in using my cellphone for too much more than making a phone call), car audio (I'm a Kenwood girl), iPods and home theatre/stereo equipment (I had a stint working for Echostar - the Dish Network people as well as for US Digital Television). Human factors engineering is also an interest of mind in that I think that the items we use a lot need to be designed well from an ergonomic standpoint. Oh, and I have an FCC General Radiotelephone Operator's License that I use for diddly-squat!

[edit] What Use Could I Be Of?

I am looking to improve my technical writing skills, so I figured that this would be a good place to start. I will naturally be drawn into topics that interest me, like Linux and open-source projects, cultural studies including the role of women in society, racial stereotypes, youth subcultures (specifically the skinhead, punk, mod, and hardcore/straight-edge groups), Appalachian culture, Israel and discussions on Zionism, criticism of liberal bullhorns (although I do consider myself a democrat for sure), the African diaspora, and anything that relates to Judaism.
