The Miss USA 2001 pageant was held in Gary, Indiana in 2 March 2001. The event was won by Kandace Krueger of Texas, who was crowned by outgoing queen Lynnette Cole of Tennessee.
Krueger was the eight Texan to win the pageant, extending Texas' record for the most wins by any state. She was the first from Texas to win since Chelsi Smith in 1995.
The pageant was held in Gary for the first time, at the Genesis Convention Center, and was held in early March for the first time in two years. From 1999-2000 the pageant, held in Branson, Missouri, was in early February. William Shatner hosted the event for the first and only time, and color commentary was added by Lara Dutta, Miss Universe 2000. Entertainment was provided by Lara Fabian, Evan and Jaron and The Warren Brothers.
