Minnesota School of Business and Globe University are private, for-profit, nationally accredited schools that have been partnered to provide specialized career training programs in business, medical, legal and computer technology fields.

MSB was founded in 1877 by Professor Alexander R. Archibald, who came from Dartmouth College. He and an assistant taught classes in bookkeeping, shorthand, English, and penmanship in a three-room school in Minneapolis. In 1890 the school was purchased by Charles T. Rickard and Grove A. Gruman and moved to larger facilities in the Jewelers’ Exchange Building in Minneapolis.

In 1929, the school was sold to the Correll and Kamprath families and was relocated to 24 South Seventh Street. In 1979 the School was moved again to the Chamber of Commerce Building in Minneapolis.

ITT Educational Services Inc. purchased the school in 1969. Terry L. Myhre purchased the school in January 1988. Today, the school is completely owned by the Terry L. Myhre family. There are now seven campus locations in the Twin Cities area.

Globe University was founded in 1885 by Frank A. Maron. scholar, he received a thorough classical education in his native country. He realized a need for a full and practical education for young men and women. He made this type of education available by establishing Globe University. From its inception, the university stressed the teaching of business as it is practiced. Through a focus of individual help and real-world practical business applications the school combines theory with practice to produce graduates ready for careers in their chosen fields. The School was purchased by Helmer Myhre and Terry Myhre in October 1972, with each holding 50% ownership of the corporation. (http://www.msbcollege.edu/about_us/history.html)

The Minnesota School of Business and Globe University offer degrees and diplomas in the following programs of study: accounting, advertising design, broadcast graphics, business management, business administration, cosmetology business, criminal justice, health and exercise science, healthcare management, legal administrative, massage, medical administrative, medical assisting, medical technology, music business, nursing, paralegal, transportation business, and veterinary technology.

Minnesota School of Business Online offers a Master of Business Administration degree, plus Bachelor and Associate of Applied Science degree programs in accounting, business administration, business management, information technology, paralegal, cosmetology business and transportation business. A variety of short-term diploma programs are also available.

The schools are accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools to award diplomas and to confer Associate in Applied Science degrees (A.A.S.), Bachelor of Science degrees (B.S.), and Master degrees (M.S.).

The Medical Assisting programs are accredited by the Commission of Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs upon the recommendation of the Curriculum Review Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants Endowment (AAMAE).

The Veterinary Technology programs are accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) as a program for education of Veterinary Technicians. (http://www.msbcollege.edu/about_us/accreditation.html)

The Minnesota School of Business has seven locations around Minnesota. Students enrolled at the school also have an opportunity to take certain classes online, and also earn certain degrees are offered fully online.

The Richfield campus is located at 1401 West 76th Street in Richfield, Minnesota, which is a suburb of Minneapolis.

The Brooklyn Center campus is located at 5910 Shingle Creek Parkway in Brooklyn Center, a northern suburb of Minneapolis. The branch opened in October 1989 and relocated to its present facility in July 1999.

The Plymouth campus is located at 1455 County Road 101 North in Plymouth, Minnesota, which is a western suburb of Minneapolis. This branch opened in September 2002 and is located in the center of Plymouth Plaza.

In October of 2004 two other campus branches were opened. The Shakopee campus, located at 1200 Shakopee Town Square in Shakopee, Minnesota, a southwestern suburb of Minneapolis, and the St. Cloud campus which is located at 1201 2nd Street South in Waite Park, Minnesota.

Another campus branch was opened in May 2005 in Rochester, Minnesota, located at 2521 Pennington Drive North West.

Globe University opened a new location in July of 2007 at 8089 Globe Drive in Woodbury, Minnesota, which is a suburb of St. Paul.

[edit] Student Resource Centers

Minnesota School of Business (MSB) Online is taking has launched a new approach to its online education program through Student Resource Centers. The centers are designed to provide students face-to-face assistance as a supplement to their online programs. Once students are enrolled with MSB Online, the center’s staff members serve as personal resources to help students take advantage of all the educational tools their residential campuses offer. The center is also a meeting place for MSB students in the area who wish to interact with each other outside of cyberspace.

The resource centers have a comfortable, quiet coffee house atmosphere where students can study and use computer workstations to do their coursework. Staff members are on hand to help connect students with their instructors, MSB’s student services, and tutoring assistance.

Currently Student Resource Centers are located in Sioux Falls, SD and Fargo, ND.
