Minnedosa, Manitoba

Minnedosa is a town in the Canadian province of Manitoba near . It is situated 32 miles north of Brandon, Manitoba. The name means "flowing water" in Sioux. The population of Minnedosa as defined by the 2001 Statistics Canada Census is 2,426.

Arriving in 1869 John Tanner was the first white settler in the area. Tanner ran a ferry service across the Little Saskatchewan River. A bridge was built in 1879, the ferry became obsolete, but a small town was started nearby. Joseph Armitage arrived in 1879, looking for a mill site. He purchased a half section of land and had it surveyed into town lots. He asked Tanner for some suggestions for a name. He chose Minnedouza, a Sioux word for rapid water and changed it a bit to Minnedosa. The town was incorporated in 1883.
A dam was built on the Little Saskatchewan River nearby between 1910 and 1912, and this created Minnedosa Lake. Minnedosa was the first site in the Province of Manitoba to generate its own hydroelectric power.
The current mayor (as of June, 2005) is Duane Lacoste.

- Buffalo Park - located south of the Minnedosa Dam on PTH 262.
- Bowling Alley on Main Street - all six alleys are five-pin.
- Train Park located on the east side of Main Street Minnedosa.
- Numerous playgrounds - 3 at the Minnedosa beach.
- Nature Trail - 20 minute walk through wooded area adjacent to Buffalo Compound. Has a swinging bridge as well as a viewing tower.
- Local Cemetery - 10 minutes from the beach
- Heritage Park - A complex containing several buildings relating to the history of Minnedosa and its surrounding area.
- Lookout Tower - Approximately 40 foot tower on top of a steep hill. Overlooks entire valley and gives you a nice view of
- Trout Pond - Fishing spot stocked with many trout. Located at Heritage Village.
- Minnedosa is also the site of an annual event, called Rockin' the Fields of Minnedosa.
- Ski Valley - 7 kilometers north of Minnedosa.
- Minnedosa Golf and Country Club - A beautiful 18 Hole, Par 72 Course with a Driving Range.
