Miniatur Wunderland

Miniatur Wunderland is a model railway attraction in Hamburg, Germany, the largest of its kind in the world.[1] As of January 2008, the railway consists of 11,000 meters of track, divided into five sections: Southern Germany, Hamburg and the coast, America, Scandinavia and Switzerland. Of the 4000 m² of floorspace, the model takes 1,500 m².
It is to expand the number of sections to 10 by 2014, the next is an airport, due to open in 2009. The detail of the models is staggering, currently:
- over 900 trains with over 12,000 carriages running through the model
- over 300,000 lights
- 200,000 figures are scattered throughout the model with
- 200,000 trees.

The construction of the first part started in December 2000 and the first three parts were completed in August 2001.
