Mike Farnworth

Mike Farnworth is a New Democratic Party politician from Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada, who has served in the province's Legislative Assembly. Farnworth was elected in 1991, after serving several terms on Port Coquitlam's city council. He was re-elected in 1996, and although he lost in the party's province-wide wipeout of 2001, he was one of the highest vote getters for the NDP.
During his time as MLA, Farnworth served as Minister of Employment and Investment as well as Health.
In 2005 B.C. general election, Farnworth was the NDP candidate in the riding of Port Coquitlam-Burke Mountain. He won the riding with 11,844 votes (48.14% of valid votes)defeating City Councillor Greg Moore.
Farnworth is the NDP Official Opposition House Leader. He previously served as Economic Development Critic. He is now the Critic for Public Safety and Solicitor General, where he has been noted for his law-and-order views. As Public Safety Critic, Farnworth introduced a Private Members Bill, The Victims of Crime Compensation Act, which calls for victims of crime to be entitled to unpaid leave for up to two years, and the right to return to their jobs.
Farnworth has waged a very public campaign for a public investigation into the tasering death of Polish traveler Robert Dziekański at Vancouver International Airport.
Mike Farnworth is considered a moderate/populist within the BC NDP.
