Middle Atlantic Corporation
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Middle Atlantic Corporation (formerly the Middle Atlantic Conference) is an athletic conference which competes in the NCAA's Division III. Member teams are located in the Eastern United States.
The Corporation is divided into the Commonwealth Conference and the Freedom Conference, although for football all teams are combined into one conference (minus the Commonwealth and Freedom subdivisions) because not all member colleges of the MAC have football programs. Also, men's and women's cross country and track and field are combined into one conference.
In May of 2006, it was announced that the MAC offered membership to Arcadia University and Manhattanville College as part of the Freedom Conference. They replaced Juniata College, Drew University, Moravian College, Susquehanna University, and the University of Scranton, who left to join the new Landmark Conference. To offset the change in numbers, it was also decided to switch Lycoming College from the Freedom to the Commonwealth Conference.
In 2007, Alvernia College, Misericordia University, and Eastern University accepted membership in the Freedom Conference starting in the 2008-2009 school year.[1][2] Alvernia, Misericordia and Eastern are currently members of the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference.
