[edit] Scoring in major tournaments

"...This makes him the only player to ever have scored in four major tournaments for England" - What's that all about? Beckham scored in World Cup 98, Euro 2000, World Cup 2002, Euro 2004 and World Cup 2006 which is 5 tournaments. Not 100% if he did score in Euro 2004 but even if that isn't included it's still 4. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.101.41.107 (talk) 14:00, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Beckham didn't score in Euro 2000 or Euro 2004 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.213.1.253 (talk) 11:15, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Early life

I changed the bit it said about other Liverpool players who are Everton fans, because it said Steven Gerrard was one, and I'm failry sure he isn't. There was no source listed, so unless anyone can prove Gerrard was an Everton fan, of which I'm sure he wasn't then I think we should leave it off. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gunsnroses15 (talkcontribs) 15:05, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Delusions

Contrary to some deluded Man Utd fans, he doesn't play for the, so I've removed it from the box

[edit] Betting?

How come there is no mention of his 'contreversial' dip into betting. To be honest, I couldn't care less (he's allowed to have a flutter!), but this may be of some interest.

He has the money to bet, and if he went overboard he would of been broke. He is not stupid. Rooney makes mistakes too, but it seems ok becuase it's Wayne. If Owen did the same amount of stuff that Rooney does he would never play football again.

[edit] Northop Hall

Intrigued to know why the Northop Hall/Northop edit keeps being reverted - since Lower Soughton Hall (Owen's home) is actually located within Northop? Richsage 12:22, 29 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Injury record at Newcastle

I've just edited the history of his metatarsal injury with Newcastle as the existing information was incorrect and misleading. I've included numerous references. aLii 20:38, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Reasons for leaving Liverpool

I believe that the line: The highly lucrative and lower tax wages on offer to Owen is misleading. As far as I'm aware Owen took lower wages to go to Madrid. That doesn't make said line wrong, but it is very misleading. aLii 20:38, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

Owen did not take a wage drop to join Madrid, he was on £60k when he was at Liverpool which was all but confirmed when Liverpool signed Harry Kewell who was given a deal to make him the top earner at Liverpool the papers all said he would be on £65k aweek, Real Madrid was said to have given Owen a contract of 4 years and an £80k aweek contract. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.134.180.216 (talkcontribs) 13:55, 12 December 2006

[edit] the most recent injury while playing for england

son of a gun, as a newcastle united fan, i'd hafta say i kinda hate michael owen for now. 202.137.21.86 16:15, 21 June 2006 (UTC)aRie

Yeah, injuring his knee deliberately and ending his World Cup dreams and putting himself in physical and emotional agony like that. The selfish bastard! Angmering 17:12, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] "Category:Natives of Flintshire"

Deb has just removed MO from this category since he was born in Chester. I'm going to reinstate it, since just about nobody nowadays is born in Flintshire if the pregnancy goes to term - they'd either be born in hospital in Chester, Cheshire, or Bodelwyddan, Denbighshire. Living somewhere all his life up to his mid-twenties except for the first few days is enough to make him a native in my book! -- Arwel (talk) 17:13, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 100th Liverpool Goal

Does anyone know how many games it took him to reach 100 Liverpool goals? -- 82.0.113.121 (Found it was 155 games) Only Roger Hunt was faster Post WW2.

  • Didn't Fowler score 100 overall goals (in all competitions) for LFC quicker? Let me get some stats...

Fowler's first 4 seasons were scintillating: 18, 31, 36, 31 overall goals in 34, 57, 53, 44 games respectively. 116:188

Owen's breakdown to pass 100 overall goals (sometime in his 6th season): 1, 23, 23, 12, 24, 28 in 2, 43, 40, 30, 46, 43 games. 111:204

According to wikipedia's stat tables on each player's page. Pretty close either way. Maybe Fowler's playing in more games in his first 4 seasons made it look more in his favour than I thought. Zerotta (talk) 16:01, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Please explain...

Would someone please explain this sentence: "Owen is currently England's 4th highest scorer of all time, with 37 goals in 82 games for his country, with him being England's leading competitive goalscorer on 23 goals."--ukexpat 19:51, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

He's the 4th highest England scorer over all games (competitive: ie. World Cup matches, WC qualifying, Euros etc. and then friendlies as well), whereas competitive is just those important competitive games. He's the highest scorer in competitive games, but not out of over all games for England. Gran2 19:56, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the explanation. I have not lived in the UK for 12 years so maybe I am out of touch but is "competitive goalscorer" a term of art? I think the article needs to contain some clarification of this term. --ukexpat 12:53, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Competitive matches are the elite international matches. As far as I know even a single world cup qualifier gets huge revenue's through adds etc. These games don't have National teams trying out new players or formations, they play their best to win. Scoring even 5+ competitive goals in your international career is a good thing as chances are very rare and you have to seize the opportunity when you get one.- 3E933333Boy

[edit] vandalism needs fixed

Why the hell does it say in international career that he plays for scotland and the whole section is wrong because of this. Can someone fix it? The sunder king 20:57, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] list of intl goals

although the list (which was not added by me) was removed by a user, one way to get around the cluttered-ness is to just use columns. Chensiyuan 01:29, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

Jockbio.com would prove to be an excellent resource to use, if anyone's interested in pushing this article to GA. Chensiyuan 16:13, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
