Mick Rix
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mick Rix (born 11 April 1963 in Barnsley, South Yorkshire),[1] is a British trade unionist.
Seen as a member of the awkward squad of left wing union leaders, Rix has been a member of the Socialist Labour Party and the Stop the War Coalition,[2] although political differences led him to resign from both organisations.
The former general secretary of train drivers union ASLEF, Rix's defeat to Shaun Brady, a relatively more right wing candidate, came as a great surprise to the left wing of the trade union movement.[3] The defeat led to a period of instability in ASLEF culminating in a brawl at a barbecue at the union's London headquarters. This resulted in a number of senior officers being removed from their positions, including Rix's successor.
Rix is currently a National Executive Officer with the GMB Union responsible for relationship with DHL,[4] and is involved in the Justice for Colombia group and carries out a lot of charity work.
