[edit] Thanks for the barnstar

It's my first one...I appreciate it! --Wassermann 08:07, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disquieting Actions

Thanks for your note. Given your experience and that of others (RGTraynor, for example) I am seriously thinking that a request for comment might be salutary. The level of contention and sheer animosity that has been unleashed recently is really unacceptable. I would welcome your thoughts. Eusebeus 23:23, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

  • Yes, I suspect we are of one mind on this. It is more serious than whining, however. Faced with people who disagree with him, he alarmingly frequently resorts to bully tactics: accusing others of bad faith (note how many times in our ongoing school debate he calls my comments "malicious personal attacks"). He also misrepresents other people's positions, showing a lack of consideration and respect that runs contrary to the consensus-building nature of the project. As his comments to you demonstrate as well, his pattern of response extends to abusive behaviour and a dismaying willingness to attempt to cow people through unsubstantiated and erroneous, if inflammatory, charges. Hence, I think an RFC would be a good remedial step to at least put this kind of behaviour to some kind of larger forum and collect opinion. Alan makes valuable contributions here - don't get me wrong. He is remarkably active. But his reaction to those with whom he disagrees is unacceptable. Eusebeus 23:33, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
    • The problem is it takes a lot of time to mount an RFC, since it is a serious thing and should be the consequence of a joint action. If you are willing to help out, it might be worthwhile, though, given his pattern of behaviour. Eusebeus 00:18, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
      • Banned from participating in AfD for a while should be the goal. Check out how many times he has accused me of personal attacks in the course of this bout. Unbelievable. Anyway, we can perhaps put together a list of diffs that illustrate the problem ask for input through an RfC. I think it is overdue. Eusebeus 00:35, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
        • I agree. Do you think he should be told first that there will be an RfC regarding his actions? I noticed that your remarks at AN/I didn't really do much regarding his behavior. If anything, it seems like its intensified. I'm actually trying to figure out where all his animosity comes from. Do you think it's worth just trying to talk to him or are we past that? MetsFan76 00:43, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
  • Indeed, it is standard procedure when proceeding, or contemplating proceeding, with an RfC to inform the people involved. I've dug around a bit and I see the problem is that Alan, while an excellent user when he is not in disagreement, becomes invariably disruptive, angry and offensive when he feels other editors are engaged in bad policy, judgment, etc... His approach to AfD is exemplary of this. Thus, the point is to work out some way that the bad editor who berates, insults and accuses can be separated from the good one who makes a very substantial contribution. There are certainly others who feel the same way, and there may certainly be those who will note Alan's remarkable activities, particularly with respect to the New Jersey project, as fully redemptive. Eusebeus 13:54, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
    • Hey, nice to see you back. Alan is wikistalking me a little, so don't be surprised if you get charged with some hysterical accusation of personal attacks and all the usual adjectival whatnot that he keeps in his sock drawer. Anyway, the latest shenanigans seem to make an RfC even more compelling. I suggest it launch next week. Waddya think? Eusebeus 17:29, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] My RfA

You rock! I was looking for a prettier way to do this, but I'm not very artistic, so I'll just say thank you for your support in my RfA, which was closed as successful. Did I mention you rock? See you around! -- But|seriously|folks  08:49, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
