Merlin Dean Mann III (born November 26, 1966 in Cincinnati, Ohio) is a writer, and the editor and primary contributor for the website 43 Folders. He received a B.A. from New College of Florida.[1] He currently resides in San Francisco, California with his wife, Madeline Mann, and his daughter, Eleanor Flannery Mann.

In addition to 43 Folders, Mann has written articles for Macworld, Make and Popular Science magazines. He is also known for his work with Quicksilver, a program used for quickly executing actions from the keyboard in Mac OS X, along with The Omni Group's OmniFocus. He is a proponent of David Allen's Getting Things Done productivity methodology and frequently writes about productivity issues. Mann's writing is seasoned with references to pop culture.

Mann is one of the hosts on the MacBreak video podcast and a core host on the MacBreak Weekly audio podcast. He has been a long-time member of the MacBreak Weekly cast dating back to the third episode, "So New It Doesn't Exist." He also authors a podcast covering productivity tips for 43 Folders and a video podcast referred to as "That Phone Guy." The Merlin Show, a video podcast, premiered on February 26, 2007. Mann also runs 5ives, a website dedicated to lists of five things, and Kung Fu Grippe, a tumblelog of his Internet travels. He updates his Twitter account, hotdogsladies, much more frequently (the username a line from his favorite book, John Kennedy Toole's A Confederacy of Dunces). He recently started an audio podcast entitled "You Look Nice Today" with Adam Lisagor and Scott Simpson. Mann is a regular contributor to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation radio show/podcast Spark.

Mann is the namer and popularizer of the Hipster PDA, a paper-based, DIY personal organizer that uses design cues found in David Allen's Getting Things Done.

Mann was in a rock band called "Bacon Ray" from 1994 to 1999 in Tallahassee, Florida.[2] Additionally, he started a cover song project of Will Oldham's song "I Am a Cinematographer."[3]
