Maximiliano Gastón López (born April 3, 1984 in Buenos Aires, Argentina), better known as Maxi López, is an Argentine football player, who currently plays for FC Moscow of the Russian Premier League. His most usual position is Forward.
Maxi López started his career in 1997 with River Plate. At the age of 17 he made his senior debut. With River Plate he was a standout striker and the club won the Torneo Clausura in 2002, 2003 and 2004.
In January 2005, after being strongly linked with S.L. Benfica, FC Barcelona signed him for €6.2 million following an injury to Henrik Larsson. Although he scored on his European debut, against Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League, he was not a regular in the team. He left Barcelona for Mallorca for the 2006-2007 season, on a loan, where he did not live up to the expectations, scoring only 2 goals in 25 matches.
On August 16, 2007, Maxi Lopez signed for FC Moscow after a transfer fee of €2million was agreed with FC Barcelona.[1]
Maxi López has an Italian passport, which allows him to play in the European Union without taking a place for extra-communitarians.
