Max Disk Formatter

Max Disk Formatter is a utility program used to format floppy disks, and was often used to format them to a nonstandard (larger) sizes. Disks formatted by MDF cannot be used in a conventional manner, even with the standard format size, because of the non-standard file system.
As floppy disks are now not widely used for anything other than file transfers between machines, this program is now obsolete. However, it has one feature that is useful for old computers: it can format diskettes which are not able to be formatted by any other program.

- If BIOS has an information about 5.25 inch drive as A: and not as B: the program may attempt to use an incorrect format.
- Norton Disk Doctor and similar programs do not understand MDF's format, and may try to format the floppy back to a standard filesystem, thus rendering it unusable.
