[edit] Career

Joshua, together with fellow Chicago DJ's Steve "Silk" Hurley and Eric "E-Smoove" Miller, were at the forefront of the early days of the House music scene which began in the 1980s. They were also among the many acts that were part of the legendary recording label Trax Records. By the early to mid 1990s, Joshua would also join Hurley and Miller in a House music remixing boom, re-producing artists like Ce Ce Peniston, Malaika and Michael Jackson, amongst many other pop artists. To this day Joshua continues to carry on the tradition of remixing pop artists' singles.

To many fans of the House music genre, he is best known for his 1989 number one Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart classic "This Is Acid (A New Dance Craze)," which he recorded under "Maurice." The aforementioned tune is best remembered for its spoken-inspired male vocals by Leroy, with sampled use of sirens and sexual screaming voices in the background.

He is most famous for his work with Kim English and pop group Destiny's Child. His partnership with the group's leader Beyoncé is often compared to the partnership of Mariah Carey and David Morales, because like Carey and Morales, Joshua and Beyoncé often work closely together to have Beyoncé re-sing her vocals for club mix version of her hit singles. At The 46th Annual Grammy Awards 2004, his remix of Beyoncé's massive hit "Crazy in Love", known as "Krazy in Luv (Maurice's Nu Soul remix)" won Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical.

In October 2004 This Is Acid appeared in the popular videogame Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, playing on House Music radio station SF-UR.
