[edit] Career

[edit] Walsall

Fryatt rose through the ranks from youth level at the Bescot Stadium, making his first team debut in September 2003 as a substitute against Bolton Wanderers in the League Cup before moving to Carlisle United on loan to gain vital first team experience. The move proved successful, and the young striker returned to Walsall to claim a regular first team place as the 2003-04 season came to a close.

Fryatt made a total of 49 league starts for the Saddlers, scoring 27 goals in the process. Fryatt also collected the Goal of the Season and the Player of the Season awards at Bescot at the end of the 2004-05 season.

[edit] Leicester

Fryatt joined Leicester City from Walsall for an undisclosed fee (thought to be around £350,000) in January 2006. The 20-year-old striker, who scored 14 goals for Walsall in the 2005-06 season, signed a three-and-a-half year contract with the Foxes and was handed the number 12 shirt, which he also wore at Walsall and made his Foxes debut as a second half substitute at Hillsborough on January 14.

Fryatt scored the fastest ever goal scored by a Leicester City player when he scored after 9 seconds in a game against Preston at the Walkers Stadium on 15 April 2006.[1] He also holds the record for the quickest ever Walsall goal, also 9 seconds against Bournemouth in the 2004-05 season.

Fryatt was picked by the BBC as Leicester City's key player for the 2006/07 season, remarking that "he deserves to play in the Premiership". However, he was plagued by injury during that season and despite managing 34 first team games, he scored just four goals.

Fryatt never made a league appearance under Martin Allen in the 2007/08 season, featuring just twice against Accrington Stanley and Nottingham Forest in the Carling Cup.[2][3] He finally made a league appearance against Charlton Athletic on 22 September 2007, under then manager Gary Megson.[4]

On 26 September, Fryatt scored the winning goal which gave Leicester a shock win over Aston Villa in the Carling Cup.[5] He scored his first league goal of the season against Stoke City three days later.[6] His second came against Bristol City on November 25, but was also sent off for violent conduct.[7] His appeal against the decision was rejected.[8]
