I don't know where to put it, but O'Connor appeared on norwegian singer Øystein Sunde's 1989 record "Kjekt å ha", together with many other bluegrass heros. The only sources I can find are in Norwegian, like this: [1]. At least the lists of musicians are useful to you. Is this useful information? 83.109.207.104 22:58, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

All right. I've added articles for all of the Mark O'Connor albums I know, some stubbier than others, except for two. I could also add articles on two of his compilation albums, "Restrospective" and "The Championship Years", but I'm not quite as interested in writing up those as they're only compilation albums. The second is questionable, because it contains a lot of material from fiddle competitions that isn't found on any of his other albums, to my knowledge. Some of O'Connor's albums that should probably be written up that I don't own are:

• Markology
• On the Rampage
• Fanfare for the Volunteer (which Acjelen has said he could do; that would be awesome)
• maybe one or two of his new age-y albums like Elysian Forest

I guess I scanned the other two album covers for iTunes. Anyway, great work Caterpillar. If you haven't already, you should read the Wikipedia albums project. I added categories to the album articles you created. I also changed the genre of American Seasons and The Fiddle Concerto and fixed the link. Since it is unlikely that I'll upload the cover and write a stub for Fanfare for the Volunteer tonight, that will have to wait for tomorrow. -Acjelen 02:46, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks! Categories are wonderful; didn't think to do that. Yeah, I've looked at/consulted it, though I haven't read it through. Any reason that you changed the genres on those two? I used classical/bluegrass because they're crossover albums, and I thought that the classical genre was used here to indicate European classical music, not simply orchestral (that's where it links). Since the article Classical music is a disambiguation page, I changed the genre to European classical music, but piped it as "Classical music". I don't see any of O'Connor's orchestra music as bluegrass. It's tinged with bluegrass, has American motifs and themes (that's why I like it), but qualifying the classical with bluegrass doesn't seem bold enough. Earlier compositions based on national folk music, by Grieg or Brahms for instance, is unqualified "classical music", so I think O'Connor compositions should be as well. -Acjelen 12:24, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

If not a bluegrass tag in addition (I suppose that's too specific), it should at least have a Country music tag. It's influenced by European classical music styles, but it's also strongly influenced by Country, and to label it as one or the other is to give that one an undeserved precedence and undeservedly greater legitimacy. While many folk-influenced pieces like the Hungarian Dances are considered classical music, they are influenced by European folk music, not American. Arguably, these pieces (like those of, say, Gershwin) are part of the establishment of American classical as a genre. However, this has not been concretely established and laid out, so all we can really do is categorize them as crossover pieces. I'd also cite the differing categorizations on allmusicguide; The Fiddle Concerto is placed under the country genre, while The American Seasons is placed under the classical genre. Finally, on a more practical note, it seems that fans of American folk music (labeled as country) are as or more likely to listen to albums like these than are fans of European classical music. They would be guided to contribute to the album pages through their classification as country music as well as classical. I have no intention of starting some silly nitpicking argument; I will of course defer to you as my senior here. But consider my (nitpicking) opinion. -Caterpillar 36 21:55, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
