The 2008 Maryland Democratic primary took place on February 12, 2008 nicknamed the "Potomac Primary" or the "Chesapeake Primary" because the District of Columbia and Virginia also hold Democratic primaries that day.[1]
By order of a Judge, the polls of the primary were extended to 9:30 pm EST in order to compensate for voters in traffic, due to bad weather. The same day, an intense ice storm brought .25 inches-1 inch of ice accumulations across Maryland. [2]
The primary also resulted in the defeat of incumbent Rep. Albert Wynn by Donna Edwards over Wynn's support of the War in Iraq. A Republican incumbent was also defeated in the Maryland Republican primary.[3]
