[edit] Appointment
Weston has served as the Hon. Consul of the Pacific nation of the Nauru in London, England for a number of years.
[edit] Background to UK-Nauru relations
As a full member of the Commonwealth, Nauru's permanent link with the United Kingdom is maintained through Weston as its Hon. Consul. The United Kingdom had ceased to execise any direct role in Nauru's governance by 1968, but the Government of Nauru has seen fit to maintain a permanent link with London, albeit not with a full diplomatic chancery.
[edit] Role
While Nauru's commercial relations with the United Kingdom are limited, reflecting both the smallness of the country's economy and the geographical distance of Nauru from the British Isles, yet an updated information link is maintained with the British Chambers of Commerce (see link, below). As well as providing a documentary service for Nauruan nationals, part of Weston's role is to supply limited advice on commercial relations between Nauru and the United Kingdom.
The Hon. Consulate of Nauru in the UK is situated at Underriver, Kent, near London.
