Mark Mahon

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mark Mahon (born 1 April 1973) is an irish film director, writer and producer from Cork city.

[edit] Biography

At a young age, Mahon started out as a singer/songwriter and wrote over forty songs, several of which were recorded.[citation needed] By the age of eighteen however he moved to film, and started training as an actor.[citation needed]

During this time, he successfully completed his London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art acting examinations with distinction.[citation needed] At the age of twenty two, Mark was severely injured in an accident and had to spend several months in hospital recovering. During this time, he turned his love of acting and his passion for the industry to writing feature films. To date, he has written five scripts (all Hollywood Analyst Recommended screenplays) and one novel.[citation needed] Since then, he set up a film production company: Maron Pictures.[1]

In 2005, Mark Mahon flew into Long Beach, Los Angeles, as a nominee for the International Action On Film Awards.[citation needed] "Freedom Within The Heart" was honored by being selected as one of the five finalists for the Best Screenplay Unproduced Award.[citation needed] Due to his achievements since this nomination, Mark Mahon has had an award named after him, The Mark Mahon Award of Excellence in Writing. He presented this award at the Action on Film Festival in July, 2007.

Freedom Within The Heart has since been adapted into a Graphic Novel in conjunction with Atlantis Studios, and a new film version is due to shoot in Ireland in early 2008.[2]

In 2006, Mark received his Director's Diploma from the Raindance Organization in London.[citation needed] Later the same year, he completed directing his first feature length film, Strength and Honour starring Michael Madsen, Vinnie Jones, Patrick Bergin and Richard Chamberlain.[3]

In July, 2007 it was announced in Los Angeles that Madsen and Mahon are to team up again for a sequel to Strength and Honour.[citation needed]

[edit] Press coverage

In June 2006, Carolyn J. Firestone wrote a two page article about Mark's win at the International Action on Film Awards.[4] In 2007, Mark also appeared on the front cover of Hollywood Scriptwriter in the April edition.[citation needed]
