Mark John Byrnes (born February 8, 1982 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia) is an Australian football (soccer) player who most recently played as a central defender for the Melbourne Victory in the Hyundai A-League.

He was captain of the Australian Under-17 team which reached the final of the 1999 FIFA U-17 World Championship. He has also won a NSL championship medal with Perth Glory, two years after a short stint with Salzburg in Austria.

He returned to Australia to form part of Melbourne Victory's A-League 2005-06 squad, but found his chances limited by the emergence of younger defenders Adrian Leijer and Daniel Piorkowski. He was released by Melbourne Victory on 1 March 2007.

In 2007, Mark has been announced as a short term signing for Victorian Premier League side Richmond Eagles for three matches. January 2008, it was announced that Mark was on trial with British lower league football club Port Vale and Luton Town. Byrnes impressed during a an overseas pre-season tour to the extent that he would've been offered a contract had he not suffered a medial ligament strain during the last tour match.
