Marian Central Catholic is a private, Roman Catholic high school in Woodstock, Illinois. It is located in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rockford.
According to the School's mission statement, "Marian shares with parents and the parishes of the McHenry Deanery in the teaching mission of the Church, and preparing students for a life of intellectual pursuit." The school's curriculum provides students with a college preparatory education "infused with Catholic Christian values, designed to promote religious, spiritual, intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development." Since the foundation of the Catholic High School Honor Roll in 2004, Marian has continuously been ranked among the top 50 Catholic High Schools in the United States of America.[citation needed] Marian was one of only five Catholic high schools in Illinois among the top 50 in 2005.[citation needed]

Marian is a Rockford Diocesan Central Catholic High School. As such, it is an educational institution with its own Articles of Civil Incorporation in the State of Illinois and is under the Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of the Bishop of the Diocese of Rockford. In the United States, there are three forms of governance for Catholic High Schools: private, parochial, and diocesan. Private schools typically are schools operated by religious orders of priests, brothers, or sisters. Parochial schools normally are operated by a single parish or two or three parishes. Diocesan schools are operated by a diocese and are directly under the authority of the Bishop of the Diocese. Marian Central is a cooperative venture of all seventeen Roman Catholic parishes in McHenry County. As such, it is financially supported by the participating parishes. Upon Marian's foundation the official aim of the School has been "to provide youth with a faith-centered academic education which will prepare them for participation in the Church and in the world".
The local policy making body for Marian is its Council of Administration. The Council membership consists of the pastor and a lay representative from each of the seventeen McHenry Deanery parishes.
Marian Central was built in 1959 and opened in September of that year. The school was dedicated on December 6, 1959 by His Excellency, The Most Reverend Loral T. Lane, Bishop of Rockford. A major expansion was added to the original building in 1995. These facilities were dedicated on June 2, 1996 by His Excellency, The Most Reverend Thomas G. Doran, Bishop of Rockford. The purchase of an additional 27.5 acres (111,000 m²) of land and the subsequent development of that land into an athletic complex took place in 1999. At the outset, the school was operated predominately by the Sisters of the Holy Cross, but is now composed mainly of lay faculty members. Over 5,000 students have graduated from Marian since its inception.
