Margitta Gummel (born June 29, 1941 in Leipzig) is a former athlete from East Germany, who won the gold medal in the women's shot put event at the 1968 Summer Olympics held in Mexico City, Mexico.
She returned four years later in Munich for the 1972 Summer Olympics to defend her title but narrowly failed, losing out to Nadezha Chizhova and winning the silver.
Today, Gummel lives in Bad Bentheim.
