Manlleu is a large town in Osona, in Catalunya, (catalonia in english) inside the province of Barcelona, Catalonia. Population: 19,989. Manlleu is located in a big plain, La Plana de Vic. It is surrounded by big mountains, with altitudes over 1000 m high. The River Ter which starts in the Pyrenees, snakes through Manlleu, and ends in the Mediterranean Sea, near Pals and the Illes Medes.

The climate is cold in winter, temperatures around +12ºC (53,6ºF) during the day and -8ºC (17,6ºF) or more at night, some days even -15ºC(5ºF)can be recorded. The absolute minimum record is about -22ºC(-4ºF) in 1950s. Fog is common in autumn and winter and rain normally falls around October/November, but it becomes drier in December, January and February. Spring is variable with rain and lots of sun. Temperatures around 15- 25ºC(59ºF 77ºF)during the day but with cool/cold nights. Summers are warm and some days can be very hot, reaching around 35ºC/ 40ºC (95ºF/104ºC) but nights are cool (12ºC/ 15ºC.) In the last few years the climate has changed, being more unpredictable, and drought is more present than before. Examples are: in December/January 2001, -17ºC was recorded and in January 2007 +20ºC was recorded. Extremes that might be more common in coming years.
[edit] Interesting things to visit
- The main square, about to be changed due to an underground parking planned to fit more cars in Manlleu as the rate of cars in growing rapidly.
- The "Passeig del Ter" which is a nice walkway next to the river Ter, and runs for approximately. 1,5 km. Along it you can find some interesting trees, like huge poplars, plane trees, white poplar, blue Atlas cedar from the mountains of north Africa, weeping willows and common willow, evergreen oak and lime trees among others.
- Also there are the old washing places next to the canal.
- The church of Santa Maria which is made of round river stones from the river Ter. There are 2 dates when you can visit the tower church and go up to the top by stairs or a new lift. These are around the 15th of August and the first weekend of October.
- Old buildings around the neighborhood of Dalt Vila and Baix Vila, the older parts of the town.
[edit] Agriculture
There is quite a bit of agriculture with many farms which have too many animals, such as pigs and cows, they say there are more pigs than people in the county of Osona, which is one of the biggest in Catalunya. Osona is also one of the most water polluted counties, from the manure of animals which is put on fields as fertilizer. The government and local authorities seem to turn a blind eye on this subject.
