[edit] Notes
- Prior to 1984, local television stations (of the participating teams) were permitted to broadcast postseason Major League Baseball games (including the League Championship Series).
- For the 1978, Yankees-Red Sox one-game playoff, the game aired locally in New York on WPIX and on WSBK in Boston. Phil Rizzuto, Frank Messer and Bill White called the game on WPIX while Dick Stockton and Ken Harrelson called the game on WSBK. Meanwhile, Ernie Harwell and Win Elliot[2] called the game nationally for the CBS Radio Network.

- ^ It was one of those games you always remember. October 2, 1978. Red Sox-Yankees, a classic rivalry, in a one-game playoff; winner gets an all-expense paid trip to the American League Championship Series; loser goes home for the winter. Fenway Park was packed, nearly bursting. The press box was overflowing - The Boston Globe alone sent 12 writers. And there, above the first base line, huddling in a makeshift broadcast booth on a photo deck, Win Elliot and Ernie Harwell watched Bucky Dent hit one of the greatest home runs of all time. Last Thursday, Elliot passed away at Norwalk Hospital in Conn. at the age of 86. "He was really a Red Sox fan," Harwell recalled of Elliot, the one-time Michigan hockey goaltender-turned-sportscaster. "He had a hard time controlling himself."
