Mae Beavers - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mae Beavers

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mae Beavers (born December 11, 1947 in Millport, Alabama) is a Tennessee politician and a member of the Tennessee Senate for the 17th district, which is composed of Cannon, Clay, DeKalb, Macon, Smith, Trousdale, and Wilson counties, as well as part of Sumner County. She has served as a state senator since the 103rd General Assembly, and as a state representative in the 99th through the 102nd General Assemblies.

Mae Beavers is the Treasurer of the Senate Republican Caucus. She was the Republican Assistant Floor Leader during the 103rd General Assembly, and the House Republican Caucus Secretary in the 100th through the 102nd General Assemblies. She is Vice-Chair of the Senate Environment, Conservation, and Tourism Committee, Secretary of the Environment Committee, a member of the Senate Transportation Committee, and a member of the Senate Government Operations Committee.

Mae Beavers graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Trevecca Nazarene University and works as an investment broker. Former Democratic state senator Bob Rochelle has announced he will run against Mae Beavers in the 2006 state elections.

[edit] Domain name controversy

In July of 2006, it was reported in the political web log DailyKos[1] that the URL www.bobrochelle.com redirects to Mae Beaver's homepage. The meta tags for the website include the phrase "Official campaign web site for Bob Rochelle Tennessee Senate district 17 Democrat". The website is owned by Daniel Lewis[2], a candidate for the Tennessee Libertarian Party,[3] His motivations for buying bobrochelle.com and redirecting it to Mae Beaver's official site are unknown, although on the Libertarian Party of Tennessee website, Mae Beavers is listed as one of four non-Libertarian candidates who "certainly advocate fiscal responsibility for the local offices for which they are running and are outspoken opponents of tax increases."[4]
