M-61 is a state trunkline in the U.S. state of Michigan. It was first designated along a portion of its current alignment n the 1920s.

[edit] Route description
M-61 starts in eastern Osceola County south of Marion. It intersects both M-115 and M-66 bevore crossing into Clare County en route to Harrison. There it intersections both US 127 and BUS US 127. M-61 and BUS US 127 run concurrently between Harrison and the US 127 freeway. Headed east, M-61 intersects M-18 in Gladwin and M-30 in Wooden Shoe Village. M-61 also crosses the Tittawabassee River in Wooden Shoe Village. From there, M-61 hears east, crossing extreme northern Bay County before meeting I-75 and US 23 in Arenac County near Standish

Until 1940, there was no M-61 between Harrison and Gladwin, and only 6 miles of the 40 mile stretches was paved.[2] Also, M-61 originally turned north near Temple, then west through Marion to US 131 (Mackinaw Trail) near Tustin. In 1959, M-61's designation was removed between M-115 and US 131, and in 1974, a new 2-lane M-61 was constructed from Temple to M-115, bypassing Marion.
