[edit] Chumbley highly regarded?

Hi Lulu, sorry I haven't had much time to put into the article recently. Is there anyone, in your list of people who have written about Chumbley, who states that he was well regarded in the occult community? All we need is a single author who asserts this (someone we can put a name to, writing in a journal or similar, preferably not from a newsgroup), and we won't even have to say "the high regard can be guaged from book prices". We could say "He was held in high regard within the occult community, and the resale values of his books reflect this. In the meantime I'm going to try to action a couple of the other suggestions I made, if I get time. The trouble is, noname is technically correct, we can't engage in speculation based on known evidence, but only present the speculation of reliable sources... Fuzzypeg☻ 20:42, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi Fuzzypeg; I have provided a reference for the high regard in which Chumbley is held (Hutton lauds him in his book-says he couldn't have done it w/o Chumbley's help) and I added that he has been influential with many, many references-both ignored by Bongo and removed. You could request mediation (WP:DR), or you could request help from an administrator. I've called on User:Jkelly in the past, who has been helpful; however it's much easier for them to figure out what's going on if you can make the issue as clear-cut as possible. That's one good reason for trying to keep the discussion page as tidy as possible, and for avoiding large numbers of reverts during an edit war. I'll drop a line to Jkelly and ask him if he can take a look in at the page.

I've also done some recent edits to your material which I think improve the readability and the neutral tone (while still showing Chumbley in a good light), and also remove some of the wording that Bongo might disagree with. Fuzzypeg☻ 05:33, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

I saw the edits and they're very good. Nothing like having some distance to see what needs doing. From what I gather of Bongo'd post this a.m. to the discussion page, he has admitted to having no references or verifying material at all by which to support his point of view or opinions. Isn't that sort of "game over"? JKelly is famous. Thanks for asking him to have a look. I am just about ready to give up and go, though. What's being put forward isn't rational and I can't fight that. I've tried through verifying the best I can, but in the end, moderation can't fight irrationality and irrationality wills out. I have nothing to apologise for Lulbyrd. The "dishonesty" label was directed at the first paragraph of the Azoetia paragraph.Like i said previously if you have any issues dont use the Chumbley article to air greviances which exist only in your head.--Redblossom 14:42, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

The next step if things can't be resolved with the current editors may be a User conduct Request For Comment. I've only done this once, and I didn't get it to the point of it actually being discussed, because the user backed down. It's a fair bit of work to put one of these together, because you've got to collate examples of their bad behqaviour. Have a look at some of the currently listed RFCs and see how they're written. Essentially you would enter the person's name (Redblossom) into the small form on that page and hit the user conduct button. That creates a new RFC page which you can fill in the appropriate sections of. Once you've filled in these sections and supplied your evidence you can contact me and perhaps reineke to endorse it. After that, you should notify Redblossom and list the RFC page under "Approved Pages" at Wikipedia:Requests for comment/User conduct.

See Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment#Request_comment_on_users for instructions on what needs to go in the RFC for it to be taken seriously. I don't know how to determine whether two users are sockpuppets of each other, but I seem to remember that Bongo/Nameless/Redblossom seemed to be the same user. Did you have any evidence of this? if so, it would be worth mentioning in the RFC. I would be inclined to wait a bit and see how he responds to my comments before initiating this, though, since it's a bit of work to put this together... Fuzzypeg☻ 05:48, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
