Louis Shelton

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Louis Shelton, also known as Louie Shelton, is an American musician (guitarist) and music producer, born in Little Rock, Arkansas, April 6, 1941.

During the 1960s, Shelton was a session musician working in recording studios around Hollywood, and among his more notable session work was for The Monkees, including their first self-titled album, and both recordings of the Boyce and Hart song "Valleri". Shelton played the flamenco-style guitar solo on the latter, which Michael Nesmith had to mimic for the cameras on their TV series. Even after the Monkees began playing on their own records, Shelton remained a favourite among their session players.

He has also worked with Glen Campbell, Stevie Wonder, The Partridge Family, Gladys Knight and the Pips, The Jackson Five, Neil Diamond, John Lennon, Barbra Streisand, The Carpenters, Lionel Richie (it is his guitar solo on the U.S. & U.K. #1 song "Hello")[1], The Mamas & The Papas, Marvin Gaye, Ella Fitzgerald, Boz Scaggs, James Brown, Diana Ross, Whitney Houston, Joe Cocker, Kenny Rogers, Henry Mancini, Dave Grusin, Quincy Jones, Lalo Schifrin, Victor Wooten, and Tommy Emmanuel.

Shelton became a producer in the 1970s, working with recording artists including Seals and Crofts, Art Garfunkel, England Dan & John Ford Coley, as well as Australian acts Noiseworks, and Southern Sons (for some time he has made his home in Australia).

Louie remains active, and continues to record, produce, and perform.
