Long Man is a civil parish in the Wealden District of East Sussex, England. The parish includes the villages of Wilmington and Folkington; and the smaller settlement of Milton Street. The parish name refers to the fact that the Long Man of Wilmington, a 230+ ft chalk figure, is located within the parish. There are seven members elected to the parish council: one for Folkington ward; two for Milton Street; and four for Wilmington.^[2]

The parish is situated in the River Cuckmere valley, where it cuts through the South Downs. The A27 trunk road crosses the parish from west to east. The Wealdway long distance footpath also passes through the parish.

[edit] Wilmington

Wilmington is where the parish council is based. It is about 12 miles (20 km) north-west of Eastbourne. In Saxon times it was known as Wineltone; it was recorded in the Domesday Book. In the village there is a 12th century Parish Church, dedicated to Saint Mary and Saint Peter^[3]; close by are the ruins of a 12th century priory^[4]. the local public house is The Giant's Rest.

Folkington village is located to the east of Wilmington. The church here is dedicated to St Peter ad Vincula ^[5]
