[edit] History
Route 302 was introduced on 28 March 1982, as a double-deck route using Metrobuses from Willesden Garage as a replacement for the withdrawn section of route 52, running between Mill Hill Broadway and Ladbroke Grove, but was extended later that year on 14 November to Notting Hill Gate.
The 302 was converted to single-deck for a brief period between April 1993 and February 1995, using brand new Northern Counties-bodied Dennis Lances, although these proved unpopular and were soon replaced by Metrobuses.
On 27 June 1998 the route was withdrawn between Notting Hill Gate and Kensal Rise and converted back to single-deck operation, this time using new low-floor Dennis Dart SLF / Plaxton Pointers, apart from two schoolday peak journeys which were run by London Traveller using Metrobuses. Metroline now run these double-deck schoolday journeys themselves using Volvo B7TL / Plaxton Presidents. Although the route is quiet during the day, heavy peak loadings justify the route being converted to double-deck at all times.
