[edit] Initial Comments

I moved this out of the main Redwall article and to its own seperate page. This item is too long, and in severe need of being rewritten. There are pictures of real animals through the article - real animals are not relative because the characters in Redwall are all anthropomorphic. The entrys on the "vermin" are meandering and full of unnecessary detail that ruins the encyclopedic tone of the article. McJeff 04:06, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

That the animals are anthropomorphic doesn't mean that pictures of the real animals they are based on wouldn't be relevant. john k (talk) 15:43, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Edits

Too many parenthases.(Brandonrc2 16:12, 25 March 2007 (UTC))

[edit] Newest Edits

I've been reorganizing the categories and such, and also added a table of contents so that it looks more official and encyclopedic. The long bit of text before the listing of vermin still needs to be dealt with, though. Any ideas? Maybe it could be relocated to the main Redwall page. GlassCobra 01:37, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Navigation

(This is mostly directed towards you GlassCobra). It's hard to navigate this page because all of the names of the animals aren't seperate sections. It would be much easier with seperate sections, and I will be happy to edit the page if nobody responds for a few days, or if I recieve no opposition. Below is an example:

Eh? Why is this directed towards me? You can go ahead and do whatever the heck you want. :P GlassCobra 01:56, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
It's directed towards you, because you're the only person who has done anything to this page in a while.  ;-D Whatever... Malinaccier (talk contribs) 22:25, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] This page is a MESS

I created this page probably over a year ago, abandoned it because of a flagging interest in Redwall. But seriously - it's a mess, loaded with parentheses, speculation, and unnecessary and unencyclopedic details.

Please don't be offended, but I'm going to be cleaning it up and probably taking massive amounts of text out. McJeff (talk) 22:52, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

Heh, you should have seen it before Malinaccier and I got to it. Good luck cleaning everything up. :) GlassCobra 22:54, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, it was in pretty bad shape, but I would like to give GlassCobra most of the credit =D. Anyway, it would be great if you started fixing up the article (it does need some work). Happy Holidays!! Malinaccier Public (talk) 23:36, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
I went and forgot I was doing this. But can I say, you guys have done a GREAT job cleaning up the 'good species' section. I'm going to work on seeing what can be done to neaten up vermin, and possibly split 'vermin' from the general badguys. McJeff (talk) 00:30, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
Good luck. Yeah, the vermin section does need touching up. Malinaccier Public (talk) 01:14, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Random things

This is just a list of things I've noticed the article doesn't discuss while reading it.

  • Early in the series, Redwall Abbey seemed to be more of a religious order and less of a "super happy good guy community of perpetual funjoy", and it was also exclusive to mice.
    • Yes, think of the biblical references in the names Matthias and Methusaleh. Malinaccier (talk) 01:43, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
  • The shrews were originally just the "Guerilla Shrews", and one of the shrews was named Guosim.
    • Don't forget the Corim. Malinaccier (talk) 01:43, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
      • They came about after I quit following the series after Pearls, so I don't know the Corim. McJeff (talk) 00:00, 28 February 2008 (UTC) (who made this comment the other day and forgot to sign)
        • Lol, get back with the series. It's not like you have to re-read the other books to understand what's going on. Malinaccier (talk) 00:28, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
  • Foxes were originally more neutral than vermin, at least in Redwall the book. Early in the book it described "wandering healer foxes" as frequent guests of the abbey, and Constance says that "Sela's brood" is notably untrustworthy. The first time I recollect foxes appearing as hordebeasts was in Salamandastron, with Forgrin and Deathbrush.
    • That's true, but even in the books after "Pearls," no fox is ever purely good. Malinaccier (talk) 01:43, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
  • The Bloodwrath wasn't something that all badgers suffered from. In Mariel of Redwall it actually said that Rawnblade was the first Badger Lord to come down with the Bloodwrath since Boar the Fighter.
    • Yes, this is true. Malinaccier (talk) 01:43, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
      • I added this to the page on Bloodwrath instead of this article. McJeff (talk) 07:35, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
  • Ferrets generally competent and slightly more prone to good? This could be original research so I didn't add it. But Romsca, one of the few vermin to reform, was a ferret. Veil, although he was mainly a villain, did end up showing some good. Minor ferret characters in the early books (Raker in Mossflower, Scringe in Mattimeo, Killconey in Redwall) were all competent.
    • After thinking about it, the books have given me a "good" impression of the ferrets for some reason...But I agree it is OR. Malinaccier (talk) 01:43, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
  • The later books reference evil hordes killing "wood pigeons" for food, making it sound like the wood pigeons aren't sentient. Since cannibalism is something Brian Jacques hasn't touched as far as I know.
    • And don't forget all the references to eating fish, and of rats eating mice, voles, etc. Malinaccier (talk) 01:43, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
  • Stags were mentioned in Redwall the same way town animals were.
    • And repeatedly after by the good Basil-Stag Hare. Malinaccier (talk) 01:43, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
  • Gloomer was described as a water rat, but he was monster sized and didn't seem to be sentient.
  • Wearret and his descendants aren't mentioned
  • The "Painted Ones" from Mattimeo, and the weasels from I forget which book that lived in holes and used knockout gas aren't mentioned.
    • The rats I think are also from Mattimeo. Malinaccier (talk) 01:43, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

This all I can think of. I still like the older books in the series but haven't read anything post Pearls of Lutra, so if there's stuff from those books that's missing I don't know and can't help. McJeff (talk) 01:06, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

Don't you wish Brian Jacques would register an account here? Malinaccier (talk) 01:43, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
Ha. That would make this much easier... McJeff (talk) 07:25, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Wildcats & Feral Cats

I put a cleanup in on the Wildcats section. However, I haven't read High Rhulain or Lord Brocktree either one, and I didn't want to risk putting in false info.

As far as feral cats go, it seems pretty vague to me. Julian Gingivere was described as a barn cat in Redwall, and like I mentioned I haven't read High Rhulain and don't know the deal with Riggu Felis and his wife or however that went. But possibly, feral cats should be put in Neutral?

I left Wildcats in Vermin/Warlords because although Gingivere Greeneyes was good, the most major wildcat characters were all evil and Verdauga was, if not evil, far closer to it than good. McJeff (talk) 07:29, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

The only feral cats that have been strictly good are Squire Gingivere and his mate....So I guess it's your call. Malinaccier (talk) 14:44, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
