Talk:List of cities in Serbia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
You have only shown the population of Belgrade proper, or the city centre, which has 1,2 million people. Belgrade territory covers more than 1,717,000 inhabitants, without counting the largely refugee populated suburbs of Kaludjerica, Surcin, Dobanovci, Batajnica, Mladenovac etc, where additional 200,000 people live, which raises the figure to about 2,000,000 (but officially 1,717,863 (see [www.belgrade.org.yu]). As for the other cities, the numbers are as following, some differing quietly from the statistics shown on wikipedia...you have to take into the count that Serbia has recieved another 700,000 residents during the 90's and that the suburbs of the cities due to this fact have grown significantly. Largest cities of Serbia (including Vojvodina and Kosovo) are as follows: Belgrade: 1,717,863 (2,000,000 metro) Pristina: 500,000 (only 230,000 prior to 1999) Novi Sad: 302,000 (municipality) Nis: 280,000 (300,000 municipality) Kragujevac: 212,000 {255,000 municipality) Prizren: 150,000 (180,000 municipality) Subotica: 100,000 (150,000 municipality) Kraljevo: 100,000 (146,000 municipality) Pancevo: 87,000 (130,000 municipality; future conurbation with Belgrade) Novi Pazar: 86,000 (120,000 municipality) Zrenjanin: 86,000 (120,000 municipality) Kosovska Mitrovica: 80,000 (111,000 municipality)
In Montenegro, the only significant sized cities are: Podgorica: 140,000 (170,000 metro) Nikšić: 55,000 (75,000)
Numbers shown in the article are those from 2002 census. Thus, these numbers DO REFLECT all changes in population during the 90s. Second thing, the population figures given are population figures for CITIES, not those for MUNICIPALITIES. City is defined as one inhabited place (like a village), while municipality is an administrative area which in many cases include more than one city, and this IS NOT article about municipalities of Serbia. I do not know where you found your data, but you certainly did not found this data in official sources. Here are the web sites where you can download PDF document with official census data about city populations:

[edit] Kosovo cities
Tey most be deletet. Kosovo status is "non status area"--Hipi Zhdripi 02:23, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
If the final status of Kosovo will be independence, then they should be deleted when this final status is solved. The present temporary status of Kosovo is a "substantial autonomy within SCG". PANONIAN (talk) 14:04, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
