There are so many supercentwenarians with decent articles the page will be overloaded. ''[[User:Kitia|Kitia]]'' (talk) 20:00, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

If there are decent articles, they needn't be merged here. If the articles are under-referenced, they should be trimmed to include only referenced material. In any case there re only about 80 articles on American supercentenarians, so even if more than half of them were merged here, the page would still be perfectly manageable. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 16:48, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
BrownHairedGirl, the page on Martha Graham (supercentenarian) was considered on AfD; the merger option was not chosen, rather the result was "keep". Yet you, who had participated in that debate and argued for deletion, improperly merged it here. Why? How many more have you done the same way? Gene Nygaard (talk) 16:30, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Consuelo Moreno-López

I propose that this article be merged into this list. It is very short, and has little notability. It has been suggested that the person does hold an obscure record (oldest naturalized american) but I do not think this justifies a full article.--Vox Rationis (Talk | contribs)

Since no one seems to have objected to the merger, I have merged the articles.--Vox Rationis (Talk | contribs) 13:23, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

This appears to be another possibly improper merger. This particular article was considered on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. The result, found at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Consuelo Moreno-López, was keep because request was withdrawn and the closer saw evidence of notability. Merger is one of the options under WP:AfD, and was not chosen here, but there was in a sense no final result since the proposal was withdrawn. Once a determination has been made under WP:AfD, any change in that determination should come as a result of later reconsideration under WP:AfD. Granted, you did list your merger proposal on that page, putting one of the merger templates there and leaving it for a week, and as far as I can tell didn't get any objections to it from that notice. Maybe that is enough, especially with no final determination on the AfD request, but maybe it should have been mentioned at AfD since it has previously been considered there, or at Wikipedia:Proposed mergers.
I see there no such mention of that claim now, on this list. Was it was deleted as unreferenced, or taken out for some other reason?
In any case, however, such mergers should not be done without categorizing the redirect in an appropriate supercentenarian category and the year categories for birth and death, something which you failed to do here and which I have now done. I think that is an important part of the merger process; in the typical merger situation involving duplicate or near-duplicate articles, you just make sure the relevant categories from the category being merged in are retained, at least until the cleanup after merging. But that doesn't work when merging into a list. Gene Nygaard (talk) 17:04, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Gertrude Baines merger

Why does Getrude Baines have an entry here that appears to be merged when she also has an independent article? It seems pretty pointless. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.140.136.51 (talk) 22:37, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Mary Electa Bidwell & Flossie Page

Mary Electa Bidwell and Flossie Page are both listed on this article and have their own independent pages as well. This is probably not warranted due to less notability and repetition of information. TFBCT (Tom) 02/10/2008 Also, Martha Graham is linking to the famous dancer/choreographer- I'm not sure how to fix this? Any suggestions? TFBCT (Tom) 02/12/2008
