[edit] Of the Day

[edit] Letter

The Letter of the Day is a classic segment on Sesame Street that was introduced in 2002. In 2002 and 2003, Cookie Monster was by himself with many brief cameos throughout the season.

In 2004, Prairie Dawn joined in the segment. Most segments end with a sigh from Prairie Dawn and an apology from Cookie Monster.

In 2007, these sketches became less common.

The original segments from 2002 all involved the letter written in icing on a cookie, which Cookie Monster constantly tried not to eat, but in the end he gave in and ate the cookie. Special guests, like Grover, Cookie Monster's mother, etc. have appeared on the segment. In 2004, the letter presented was just a foam letter which Cookie Monster often wanted to eat. Prairie Dawn tried to stop Cookie from eating the letter, but Cookie Monster always managed to find a way to eat it anyway. Segments produced in 2005 involved The Letter of the Day Games, a game show introduced by a very energetic off-camera announcer (voiced by Matt Vogel).

[edit] Number

The Number of the Day is a segment on Sesame Street when Count von Count introduces the number of the day. The Number of the Day can be anywhere from zero to twenty. The Count usually plays his pipe organ, with each pipe singing out a number in order, starting at one. When he reaches the number of the day, balloons and confetti appear and the number appears. (on the occasions, if the number of the day is zero, the organ disappears in a puff of smoke.)

Later in 2005 and 2006, the number of the day was revealed at a restaurant, with the Count and his girlfriend Countess Dahling von Dahling present. The Count sings a song, asking whether the number of the day will be one, two, etc. When he reaches the number of the day, the Countess will shout "Stop!" Also in 2005 and 2006, the number of the day was found by using a jack-in-the-box.

In 2006 kids were doing outside activities. At the end the number of the day was found.

[edit] Spanish

The Spanish Word of the Day was first seen in 2002 and was a segment till 2006. It was repeated across the episodes. The first format was the word above the character. Then later they used another way, there are two lines and the word wasn't above the character.

[edit] Word

In 2003, The Journey to Ernie segment changed, and now Big Bird has to look for clues and find Ernie some place that is hinted at in the beginning.

Occasionally there are unexpected surprises, like when during a shape hideout Telly Monster is hiding in the triangle or when one day Bert decides to hide instead of Ernie and when Ernie wants Big Bird to hide so he could seek.

In the Journey to Ernie segments, Matt Vogel performs Big Bird, Steve Whitmire performs Ernie and Joey Mazzarino and David Rudman perform the Two-Headed Monster. Rudman also is the voice of the announcer who interrupts Big Bird's various escapades before the game begins.

When the journey is over and Big Bird finally discovers Ernie, they sing.

[edit] Monster Clubhouse

Monster Clubhouse is a recurring Sesame Street segment featuring energetic young monster friends Mooba, Mel, Narf and Groogel. For 2002, Mooba was renamed Googel and Groogel was renamed Phoebe.

He speaks with folks about what today's word means and instructs the audience to listen for its usage in the following episode (similar to the Word on the Street clue on Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?). The word is later featured in the "street scenes" and highlighted again as the Word of the Day.
