New Tricks is a British Drama television which has currently broadcast four series between 2003 and 2007, with a fifth commissioned for 2008

[edit] Pilot Episode and Series One

New Tricks began as a one-off episode, first shown in March 2003, which gained enough viewers for a series. The First series was broadcast in 2004, with 6 episodes

UCOS is set up, to investigate previously unsolved crimes. The squad is headed by Det Supt Pullman, who is moved after shooting a dog in a hostage rescue gone wrong. Along with retired policemen Jack Halford, Brian Lane and Gerry Standing.

Their first case emerges when Roddy Winger is released on appeal after serving twenty years for the murder of a nightclub hostess, a crime to which he always claimed his innocence.

Following the recovery of a murder weapon from a lake, of a policewomen, whose case was closed years ago, UCOS investigate the death. 
2 "Episode 2"  Nick Fisher Gina Cronk April 8, 2004

A fake painting is discovered in the Queen's art collection. The UCOS team reluctantly agree to investigate the case. Their investigations swiftly uncover a trail of high class frauds and suspicious deaths.

Gerry finds out he is about to become a grandfather. 
3 "Episode 3"  Roy Mitchell Jamie Payne April 15, 2004
The murder of a young peace protestor, killed at the outskirts of a nuclear base in 1984, is investigated by UCOS, and the team realise that they may be in danger of exposing a Special Branch cover up. 
4 "Episode 4"  Roy Mitchell Paul Seed April 22, 2004

The team are keen to re-open the case of a child murdered on a golf course.

The only suspect at the time, a young teenager committed suicide 
5 "Episode 5"  Alison Hume Jon East April 29, 2004
A case originally investigated by Brian is reinvestigated, where a young women and her child disappeared. Two other disappearances are soon discovered, which occurred on the same date. 
6 "Episode 6"  Simon Block Jon East May 6, 2004
In an attempt to make contact with his late wife Mary, Jack goes to see a clairvoyant. Instead he meets a girl who died in a shipping container in 1982 and has the case re-opened.

A second series of New Tricks was commissioned to be shown in 2005, this time containing 8 episodes.

The case of Hannah Taylor who was kidnapped from her home in 1992, is reinvestigated, when it is discovered, that the body, previously thought to be Hannah's, was identified as another kidnap victim.

Celebrity chef, Kitty Campbell (played by Honor Blackman) is about to be made a DBE, when Tabloid editor Chris McConnell asks Sandra to help him prove Kitty killed her husband Bertie 40 years ago.

Probate assessor Elise Allen asks Jack to find the rightful owner of a large, uncut red diamond, worth £15 million. The rare jewel was found in a flat rented by John Newman who died in 1982. 
6 "Episode 6"  Roy Mitchell and Danny Miller Juliet May June 13, 2005
Gerry loses a poker game, owing bookie Michael Jacobs £10,000. Michael offers him a chance to clear his debt by finding out who killed his dad Joe, when he was mugged outside Walthamstow stadium in 1983.

When UCOS investigates the case of two boys abducted from a fishing lake in 1979, Brian believes there could be a link to a recent snatches near the M25.

The team try to find the identity of the remains of an unidentified woman, who was found back in 1987, at the request of the Home Office pathologist.

New Tricks was given a double commission, for a third and fourth series to be produced. Series 3 was shown in 2006, with 8 episodes;

A car, which in 2001, killed a teacher in a crash, is returned to the victim's husband. Sandra, who worked on the original case, re-opens the unsolved case, at the time she was surprised by the lack of emotion shown by the husband. 
2 "Dockers"  John Johnson and J. C. Wilsher Rob Evans April 24, 2006

The death of Joe Walsh, whose body was found in the Thames in 1975, is reinvestigated.

Walsh was General Secretary of the Crane Driver's Union. Walsh stood accused of stealing money from the union's account, at the time of his death.

The team investigate the case when a series of dog killings emerge. A connection is soon made with similar killings which took place 30 years ago 
4 "Diamond Geezers"  J. C. Wilsher Juliet May May 8, 2006

The vicious criminal Chopper Hadley, returns to the country, to bury his father.

Jack is viciously intimidated, after being tricked into attending the funeral. The team start to realise the full danger of Hadley, and Brian is sent undercover.

The death of a local librarian, is reinvestigated when a woman insists it was because of witchcraft. 
6 "Bank Robery"  Jacquetta May Roberto Bangura May 22, 2006

When a former police informant returns to the country after 17 years on the run, he reveals information to Gerry about a bank robbery, which left a cashier dead.

The evidence points to Ray Cook, a legendary criminal has turned prime time celebrity. 
7 "Ice Cream Wars"  Lisa Holdsworth Rob Evans May 29, 2006

The battle between the two ice cream selling families erupts once again.

UCOS discover most of their conflict is based on the ice cream bandit, an armed robber who's targets were the ice cream vans of the two feuding families in the mid 1990s. 
8 "Congratulations"  Roy Mitchell Rob Evans June 5, 2006

The case of arson at a school is reinvestigated when the main suspect of the crime, Luke Hanson, has an alibi. However Jack is determined to get a confession from Luke’s father, Ricky, who he comes to believed destroyed his life 8 years ago.

A women visits Gerry claiming to be his daughter.

Series Four was broadcast in 2007, continuing where the third series had previously ended. There were 8 episodes in the series

Sandra manages to prevent Jack from taking revenge against the Ricky Hanson, just in time, but in the process the whole team end up in hospital. Whilst at the hospital a 10-year-old murder case comes to light.

As well as the case, the team attempt to keep Jack’s actions from temporary team member, DCI Karen Hardwick.

Sandra’s mother falls ill, and has to put in a home, whilst visiting an appropriate home, it appears a suspicious death occurred a year earlier, that was not conclusively solved.

The murder of a woman 17 years ago is reinvestigated when an armoured van is discovered at the bottom of a lake. 
4 "Nine Lives"  Lisa Holdsworth Sydney Macartney April 30, 2007
The death of a woman who left everything she owned to her cats, causes a family feud, causing the UCOS team to investigate the cause of her death. They discover the body was undiscovered for two weeks, and the windows were deliberately closed to ensure the cats would eat their owner. 
5 "Powerhouse"  Nigel McCrery and Roy Mitchell Nicholas Laughland May 7, 2007

The team reinvestigate a murder of a wages clerk at Battersea Power Station, from the 1950s.

The case is investigated when the granddaughter of the man originally hung for the murder, demands his innocence, and blames his hanging on police incompetence. 
6 "Buried Treasure"  Joe Ainsworth Minkie Spiro May 14, 2007

Brian’s dog discovers the skeletal remains of a body, in a wood, which leads to one person to confess to murder and another to ask suspicious questions about the body, making him a suspect for the murder.

It is later revealed the body is over 600 years old, making it impossible for either to have had involvement in the murder 
7 "Father’s Pride"  Lisa Holdsworth Nicholas Laughland May 21, 2007
The case of a murder on a lab assistant from 1987 is reopened, when a camera and film belonging to him are discovered. 
8 "Big Topped"  Roy Mitchell Minkie Spiro May 28, 2007

The mysterious death of a circus ringmaster. His only remaining body parts, were his feet, after his body caught fire.

Meanwhile Sandra discovers something about her father, which the rest of the team had previously failed to tell her.

A Fifth series is scheduled to be broadcast in 2008. Like the previous 4 series, series five will be made up of 8 episodes. Further episode information is unknown.
